But it is. All day. Who had fun this weekend? What did you do? Me? I was lazy. No. I mean REALLY lazy. But I think I needed it. I finished off a couple of books. Nothing that really jumped right out at me–beyond my reread of the In Death books so no recommendations there.
Sunday night, I finally got to watch THE AVENGERS. Lawyer Guy and I don’t *go* to the movies. Neither of us can sit in theater seats for that long and I’m not a fan of putting up with other people in a crowded theater. Yeah, I know. I’m antisocial. There hasn’t been a movie in ages that I’ve been so excited about seeing that I couldn’t wait until it came out on video or cable.
THE AVENGERS was FUN! I’ll admit it. I snorfled (which is way more than a gigglsnort). I jeered. I even got all choked up at the appropriate times. This is a movie that I almost would have paid full price plus munchies and drinks and actually watched surrounded by humanity. Almost. I would have been the rude one laughing out loud and drowning out the next lines. Ah, well.
And while I was watching it, I was reminded of what makes good story telling. It takes well-defined characters–even if they’re comic book heroes. It takes ramping the stakes up one more level, ie. torture the characters and then torture them some more. It takes an emotional arc for the characters that satisfies both the plot AND the reader/viewer. And then you have to have a climax that rocks the world. At least within the confines of the story. I went to bed thinking about these things and realized that I needed to do a little work in some of those areas. I’m tweaking today, layering in a bit. I don’t normally do that until I hit the end and start deep edits but this time…this time a few ideas hit and I want to follow them up before they get lost in the climax.
So, who’s seen THE AVENGERS? Who’s your favorite? Me? I was a Thor fangirl until I got a look at Hawk. *snort* Like I’d have a chance with either, but isn’t that what writing and reading and watching movies is all about? We get to engage our imaginations and put ourselves into the story. And that’s the fun of reading, watching, and especially writing. Happy Monday. May it not suck for you!

Loved, loved The Avengers. We’re big DC Comic Movie fans – have seen Hulk, Ironman (which I will watch over and over again because of Robert Downey Jr.), Thor – the only one we haven’t seen is Captain America and that’s on our list. We, too, don’t go to the movies simply because of the price! And I think when we watched The Avengers, I had the same writing epiphanies, Silver.
We weren’t going to buy THE AVENGERS. The DVD/BluRay collection is almost as bad as our book collections but I may have to break down and get it. And you know, Janet, great minds and all that… đŸ˜†
As for DST? I’m STILL fighting it. I just cant wake and and get my brain focused before 9:00 a.m. Ugh!
I did lazy on Saturday. I probably shouldn’t have – there’s so much to do – but I needed it. (At least, that’s what I’m telling myself.) Sunday I got some things accomplished – shoveling, packing, cleaning, sorting… ugh, I’m tired just thinking about it. And today there’s more where that came from. Bleh.
I haven’t seen the Avengers. Or Thor. Or the Iron Man movies. I’ve only seen parts of X-Men Origins: Wolverine (and you know my fangirl crush on Hugh Jackman). I think it’s because I loved the actual comic books so much when I was a kid. The movies aren’t the same.

I hate packing, Janet. Back in our Army days, the movers came in, packed everything up on one day, loaded it in the truck the next day and *poof*. When we got to the new place, we called the movers, The truck arrived, with the unpackers, and voila! Granted, I had to put stuff into cabinets and on shelves, into closets but all the boxes where unpacked and they disappeared. It was NICE! Every move since? All do it ourselves and double UGH!
Hang in there. You don’t have much time but it’ll be so wonderful when you get to the other side! (Besides, you work better with a deadline. *bwahaha*
Usually, I’m not a fan of translating comic books to movies but the Avengers have surprised me! You might give them a rent and check them out.
I bought The Avengers the day it came out. OMG I love that movie! I actually saw it 3 times in the theater too. My favorites are Iron Man, Hawkeye, and Thor. I’m already counting down the days until Iron Man 3 hits th theatrs.
I saw all the movies about The Avengers before seeing the movie. My least favorite and only one I don’t own is Captain America. Just not a fan…
I enjoy Iron Man but he’s almost a little…*too* something for me. I still haven’t seen Ironman II. Captain America surprised me. It was better than we thought it would be. His character/emotional arc in that movie was just…wow! But I have to admit, loved them all together way more! Even the Hulk/Dr. Banner. Mark Ruffalo surprised me in the role. I’m not a big fan of him. And now I’m a big fan of Jeremy Renner. Definitely have to get the Bourne movie he’s in and Hansel and Gretel when it’s available!
I’m in the minority. Didn’t like The Avengers at all…maybe because I hold Whedon to a higher standard.
I can understand that. I didn’t even realize Whedon was behind it until the end credits. Yeah…I’m slow like that. đŸ˜† But at the same time, in my opinion, he did add substance to the characters so they weren’t caricatures.
Hansel and Gretel really surprised me- it was funny, very steampunk.
Of course I will be there at midnight on May 3 for the new Iron Man movie. And go see it again mother’s day with my mom (tradition at this point). My favorite time to go to the movies is Tues or Wed afternoons and the first showing on Sundays. Very quiet. Love it then.
I spent the Friday night and Saturday afternoon after work laying in bed, nursing what I assume was con crude from the previous weekend. Caught up on Season 2 of Game of Thrones. Ready for this weekend!!
Sunday we went to Jersey for the twins’ 8th b’day party. They are insane boys!! đŸ™‚
Had today off. Got my nails done. This is how I like my Mondays!!!
