Thursday Thoughts: Universal Casting

Once again, the Universe hits the nail on the head when it comes to both real life and the imaginary lives that writers create to people the worlds they create. I have to admit, there’s a reason I enjoy–mostly–shopping at Wally World. There is always a variety of folks there–some are pleasant, some not. But all writers know we have to flip that coin–the good and the bad, the black and the white, the happy and the sad. Why? Because that’s life. And our stories should reflect life, even if our worlds–and the people in them–are fantastical. Characters make the story, and conversely, the story makes the characters. The Big U has a point here.

The world is filled with colorful characters, Silver, and many would be absolutely thrilled to play along in any drama you’d care to create—romantically, socially, financially, heroically, comically—any.

You just have to let me do the casting.

Absolutely thrilled,
The Universe

P.S. You decide what you want to create and how you want to feel, Silver, physically move in its direction, and I’ll “send in the clowns.”

True story. I auditioned for a musical one time long ago and far away and the song I sang? Yup.

Isn’t it rich? Aren’t we a pair?
Me here at last on the ground
You in mid-air
Send in the clowns

Isn’t it bliss, don’t you approve
One who keeps tearing around
One who can’t move, where are the clowns?
Send in the clowns

Just when I stopped opening doors
Finally knowing the one that I wanted was yours
Making my entrance again with my usual flair
Sure of my lines, no one is there

Don’t you love farce, my fault I fear
I thought that you’d want what I want, sorry my dear
But where are the clowns, there ought to be clowns
Quick send in the clowns

What a surprise, who could foresee?
I’ve come to feel about you, what you felt about me
Why only now when I see that you’ve drifted away
What a surprise, and what a cliche

Isn’t it rich, isn’t it queer
Losing my timing this late in my career
And where are the clowns
Quick send in the clowns, don’t bother they’re here. (Stephen Sondheim)

Oddly, I still remember the lyrics and tune 50+ years later and find them oddly apropos. Do the words resonate with you? And you’re welcome for the ear worm. 😁

First, it can’t be over 50 years! Damn! I’m old.

Yes, I still remember all the lyrics and yes, the lyrics resonate. I think they have to with anyone who is honest with themselves.

Not going to get me because my earworm is the National Anthem. It is always going through my head 💗.

It is snowy and cold. The roads are a mess. I was lucky and had a plow in front of me going up a very high steep hill. I had to go out because hubs neurologist appointment is tomorrow and will take up most of the day.

    Have a fantastic day!
