Tuesday Tastes – Coffee

Good morning coffeeIf you haven’t figured out I’m all about the coffee, y’all haven’t been paying attention. 😆

Ev sent me a really cool little desk calendar full of coffee facts. Here’s a few I stuck on the bulletin board:

The 1699 book “England’s Happiness Improved” states, “Moderately drunk, coffee removes vapours from the brain, occasioned by fumes of wine, or other strong liquors; eases pains in the head, prevents sour belchings, and provokes appetite.”

Well…d’uh! Or how about this one:

The powers of a man’s mind are directly proportioned to the quantity of coffee he drinks. ~Sir James Mackintosh

Which I think I’ve quoted before but it bears repeating! And then there’s the famous “conversation” between Nancy Astor and Sir Winston Churchill:

Mrs. Astor: If I were your wife, I would put poison in your coffee.

Sir Winston’s reply: If I were your husband, I would drink it.

*bwahaha*

And finally, here’s a recipe from the National Coffee Association USA for Coffee Alexander:

In a blender, mix 1 cup cold, strong coffee., 1 cup coffee ice cream, and 2 oz. brandy or cognac until smooth and creamy. Serve in 2 champagne flutes or wineglasses. Garnish each with a coffee bean.

Me? I’d forget the coffee bean and go for shaved chocolate. *nods*

So how do you take your coffee?

Yes to shaved chocolate – no coffee beans, bleh! You, self-proclaimed coffee queen, would say no to a coffee bean? The Husband made a coffee port – tweaked it to be more coffee flavored and added coffee beans to the final bottling – oh, my, it is to die for!

FYI – I like the first quote, especially “…coffee removes vapours from the brain, occasioned by fumes of wine,” Now, if you’ll excuse me, I must go pour another cup of coffee 🙂

I love the smell of coffee beans but not to chew on or eat or anything. Chocolate is a better garnish! And coffee port?!? *swoon* Dang. He IS creative! 😀 And yeah, I thought that one might ring a bell. 😉

I like coffee, but it has to have something in it and lots of almond or soy milk. My current drink of choice is a white chocolate peppermint mocha from Starbucks. I am making myself stay away from there as much as possible tho.

Did you know you can ask for sugar-free, low fat and it cuts the calories in half? My CP is loves the white chocolate mocha latte but didn’t drink it except on rare occasions. Then she found a barista who said she could make a skinny version. Ask around!

I drink my Cafe du Monde chicory half and half with light soy milk (sometimes light vanilla flavored) and a teaspoon of stevia. I heat the soy milk in the micro, then the sugar, then the coffee. It’s pretty yummy. 🙂

  3. COFFEE!

My go-to daily coffee is plain ol’ Folgers Classic Roast with a half-spoon of sugar. I can’t handle anything else first thing. Later, if I’m out and about, I’ll pick up a cup of gas station cappuccino. What can I say, I have simple tastes.

Love the coffee quotes, btw. Always good stuff. ;o)

    • Silver James says:

I am all about the simple! We just happen to like the Cafe Du Monde brand and I can get it at the Vietnamese grocery cheaper than I can get Folgers or any other brand at the regular grocery/Walmart. My dad used to laugh and ask if I liked a little coffee with my milk. 🙄

Got something to say?
