Wednesday Words – Old West, etc.

I’ve been on another reading marathon. I do so appreciate my local library system, especially when I want to try out a new-to-me author and then nom any backlist of an author I glom onto.

The following are several snippets/quotes that caught my eye, made me laugh, or gave wonderful character insight during the past week. From the historical westerns of Jo Goodman:

Raine took all the information in. “I don’t know if you can appreciate that none of that really eases my mine as to your presence in my rooms. Tell me, how would your family describe you.”

“Black sheep.”

“Well,” she said after a moment. “That puts it all into perspective, doesn’t it?”

“Some have said so.” ~Lorraine and Kellen from THE LAST RENEGADE, Jo Goodman

The braid never moved except when Priscilla raised her hand to answer a question; then it slid ever so slightly to one side and the tip curled like an apostrophe. Or maybe a comma. Those punctuation marks were suspiciously similar, except one was high and one was low. It was no wonder he got them confused. ~Finn Collins, ruminating on the schoolmate sitting in front of him, (Finn’s nine, FYI) from TRUE TO THE LAW, Jo Goodman

And hopping to a paranormal present, this next quote is from a new series I discovered.

“Maybe I just enjoy dating.”

“No one enjoys, dating,” said Miach.
(Conversation between Helene Whitney, a human, and Miach MacCecht, a Fae sorcerer and Southie crime lord) SILVER SKIN, A Cold Iron novel, by D.L McDermott

And here’s a little teaser from my WIP, COWGIRL’S SWEETHEART, from the hero’s POV as he ruminates on the love of his life:

Jolene Davis. Juliet to his Romeoβ€”the poison that killed their relationship spilling from their families rather than a bottle.

Anybody have words to share? Or a book you’re reading and enjoying? Like I NEED more books on my TBR list because I obviously don’t have enough now. πŸ™„

Love that last one! Ooh, that’s yours, Silver πŸ˜‰ Great line!!

  2. Your line was awesome, Silver.

No words to share this week – I’m near the end of Djinn3 and everything’s a spoiler at this point. And the only book I have to suggest is JB Lynn’s The Hitwoman and the 7 Cops – but you already know about that one. (Finished it yesterday, just haven’t had time to review it yet.) Other than that, I’ve been flipping through a lot of duds on the Kindle. I did read Crash and Burn by Allison Brennan and Laura Griffin, which was covered in awesome. And Bewitched, Bothered and Biscotti by Bailey Cates – also covered in awesome.

Reading Alli’s DEAD HEAT right now. Well, not at this precise moment, but started last night and will read more when I hit the gazelle today.

Yay on almost hitting THE END! I’m really wishing I was closer to that on SWEETHEART. I figure today is going to be a long series of #1k1hr twitter sprints. I’d love to have first draft done by mid-month.

  3. Happy Hump Day!!
I finished Tonya Burrows Honor Reclaimed- they are a misfit group
of former special ops, agents in hostage/rescue. This book was intense because it details some of what one of the guys went through held by the Taliban as a prisoner.
I’m on book 3 Blind Faith of Rebecca Zanetti Sin Bro series they were created out of test tubes, trained to fight/kill as kids, now they broke free, but…
Lastly I saw the cover for Katana Collins at BN, the 1st book in the series is soul stripper, she’s a barista by day and stripper at night in Vegas bad she’s a succubus? Covers really get my attention!!!
New Place is coming along, still have outdoor stuff at the old one.
    Have a great days Ladies

Welcome back, Kimber! Glad you’re getting settled in. And wow! Those books sound interesting. I’ll have to check them out. I’ve heard about the Katana Collins book somewhere. I thought it had a great hook. Thanks for reminding me of it. πŸ™‚

Each time you post new books, my TBR pile grows. Killing me!

  5. I tweet quotes from books I’m reading once a day from @sueannbowling and on my facebook pages, then have a Wednesday roundup of contexts on my blog. I’m doing Mansfield Park this week, in honor of its 200’th birthday.

Got something to say?
