Thursday Thoughts – Universal Forks

universeWhen I read this nudge from the Universe, I thought of Yogi Beara, the great Yankees catcher known for his malaprops, especially when he said, “When you come to a fork in the road, take it.” That always made sense to me. And in some ways, I think the big U agrees with Yogi.

For every fork in the road, Silver, there are often two paths from which to choose: the one you “should” take and the one you want to take.

Take the second. Always take the second.

Man, Silver, could life rock any more than it does?

Yeah, this is a whole lot better than sticking a fork in it because it’s done, right? 😆 Life rocks pretty good right now. How ’bout y’all? Which way do you go when you come to a fork in the road?

  1. Yep, life is rocking pretty hard right now – despite the depressing lack of book sales. I should have waited for a traditional publisher… Heh, screw that. I took the fork I wanted to take and that has made all the difference (to borrow a bit from Frost.) I am WAY happier than I was in the query grinder. Screw the shouldas. What I shoulda done was self-publish years ago instead of waiting around for someone to tell me they would allow me to publish – if I was a good girl and followed all the rules. Bleh.

And I love Yogi. “It’s like deja vu all over again.” Did you know he sued Hanna Barbera for using Yogi Bear? He lost, but it’s something I can totally see the human Yogi doing. (The bear, too, for that matter.)

Yeah…no! I know just how you feel. I’m still waiting to hear back on the rest of the Red Dirt books. In the meantime, I’m having a blast branching out with bad-ass bikers and soon, sexy SEALs.

As far as sales go, as you develop a back list and people find your books (more books, more discoverability) your sales will start to pick up. Those success stories where someone writes a book that goes NYT list with the debut? Yeah…mostly a myth. Most of us are just grinding along, at least paying our expenses but doing what we love. I’d rather be happy doing my “job” than just about anything else. So hang in there, sister! Just remember, as Yogi said, “If you don’t know where you are going, you might wind up someplace else.”
