Monday All Over Again

Monday again babyWhat is it about Monday? It just keeps showing up every seven days whether we want it to or not. I mean, seriously? It needs to just take a long hike already.

Writing: As most of you know, the proposal for RDR#4 (working title of LAST COWGIRL STANDING) headed off to Mr. HQEd last week. Now to get started on my next two projects–THE DEVIL’S CUT and MOONSTRUCK: LIES. I need to start multi-tasking ASAP. Plus, I need to work on LCS periodically too because once the proposal is accepted, I have a short trigger deadline on it as well. So, not much time on social media in my immediate future. I think I’m supposed to be sad but I’m not really. I know, my bad.

Reading: I’ve been doing my fair share since Insomnia is visiting. I’d like to kick it’s @$$ to the curb but that’s not happening. Ah well. I burned through Roxie Rivera’s Her Russian Protector series. They’re sexy and despite the fact the Russian mob was operating in Houston, which may or may not be a real thing but it made me go, “Huh?”, they were fun reading. A little gritty, very sexy, and dang those alpha men. *fans face* I also read and thoroughly enjoyed (5 BIG stars worth!) our own B.E. Sanderson’s new UF novel, WISH IN ONE HAND. I got to beta read this book way back when. Enjoyed the heck out of it then and loved it when I got to read the final version. If you’re a fan of Larissa Ione’s Demonica series, I highly recommend HADES, which is part of the 1001 Dark Nights anthology series. I always enjoy touching base in Larissa’s world.

TV: Saw DRACULA UNTOLD Saturday night. OMG! I love this take on the Dracula legend and OMG Luke Evans (who plays Vlad) is yummy awesomesauce. Someone PLEASE tell me there’s a sequel set in modern times in the works because the ending…REINCARNATION, people! And true love!!!! And a very bad guy!!!! So yeah. I really liked it, in case you couldn’t tell.

Stuffs: Lawyer Guy and I are co-teaching an on-line class, Letters of the Law, for the Kiss of Death RWA chapter. It’s open to anyone to take. You can get info HERE if you are interested. The course lasts through the month of September, starting tomorrow, September 1st.

We went shopping for Stormageddon on Saturday. Baseball Boy is coaching a 14 and Under baseball team and LG wanted a batting helmet with a face cage for Stormy. The kid is 17 months old. He has his own glove, balls, batting tee, helmet, and also a deal that blows up with like a basket ball net in the middle of it to catch balls when he throws them. Not that we’re expecting him to play baseball or anything, because The Only was just an NAIA All-American catcher and BB was a conference team first baseman. shifty-eyes-ani2faster

And that’s been my life of late. What about y’all? What did you do that was fun this weekend? Read any good books? Seen any good movies?

  1. Thanks for the shout-out, Silver! I’m so glad you liked the final version of WIOH. We’ll see if we can’t get the sequel up this Spring. Man, you have a lot of irons in the fire. You go, girl. I can’t wait to read everything you’re working on. Ugh, I feel like such a slacker. I’m only working on edits, but it’s taking up all my brain space, so I haven’t read anything new since last week. And September is for writing new words. And cover art.

No new movies, but we did watch The Wreck of the Mary Deare yesterday. Gary Cooper… :sigh:

      I did, I did! I’m still waiting for the 3rd book because…REASONS! 😆

I have about 50K written on DEVIL but OMG, the writing sucks so bad so deep edits and a few new words until I the spot where I stopped. The same with LIES. It’s mostly reading and fixing and adding in some of the behind-the-scenes scenes. I’d hoped to have all four Moonstruck compilation books out but I think I’ll save the other two for next year. I still want to get a Christmas novella out, revisiting the Wolves in Blaidd’s Gap. 😉

      Ah yes, Gary Cooper. 🙂

      • Right. You haven’t read the third even in first drafty form. Things happen in it. Things I’m not even sure I remember because memory-suckage.

Oh man, I hear that on the writing suckage thing. You can do it. So can I. Ooo, xmas novella! That’ll be awesome.

        • Silver James says:

I stopped writing DEVIL like four years ago. It’s major suckage. There’s no timeline. The plot doesn’t make sense and OMG the extraneously words! *flail* But I can fix it because there are at least words on the page.

And yes, I figured things happened in #3. I just want to know if I’m going to hate Zeke or tuck him into my BBF drawer. 😉

Finish Anything but Broken by Joelle Knox this weekend. Its a NA book by Bree and Donna aka Kit Rocha. Very contemporary and new adult but a very good read. I’m about an hour from finishing up listening to The Martian. OMG it is such an awesome book! I can’t wait to see the movie in October with my brother. Hope they don’t screw it up and I’ve had enough distance from reading the book to not pick the movie apart.

I’m trying to get through everything in my DVR right now as I’m getting ready to dump cable and go to streaming only services and antenna for local stations. I watched Disney’s Descendants this weekend which was a really good movie (kids of the Disney villains) and then watched Dolphin Tales 2.

    • Silver James says:

How does their NA stuff compare to the Kit Rocha series? I can’t decide whether to tackle THE MARTIAN or not. I may have to put my name on the library’s waiting list. I need to get through my DVR stash to open it up for the falls shows. I should do that instead of reading at night when I can’t sleep. Would probably be better for my eyes. LOLOL The kids have Netflix and set it up here when they were housesitting. LG has discovered it and is having a ball. *rolls eyes* There are days I think we keep cable just so we can get Cards baseball. 😆

      • Liza says:

The NA stuff is nothing like the Kit Rocha books. Lots of drama and angst with most of the people being in the early 20’s. I’ll be honest and say not all NA is for me, but I do enjoy a few authors. I felt like it was very well written and I connected to the characters even though I’m over 20 years older than all of them. I gave it a solid 4 stars.

As of The Martian, there was no way I could fit it in to read, so I got the audiobook on audible. I didn’t think I would love it as much as I have, but it actually is one of the best books I’ve read this year. I can’t wait for the movie and from the casting I’ve seen, they did a really good job.

        • Silver James says:

Maybe I’ll just wait and watch the movie. LOL I have a little trouble with most NAs for that reason except I’m not only old enough to be the characters’ mother, I could be their grandmother in some instances. LOLOL

  3. *waves at everybody*
Work drama took a stressful crash, so I am off the radar on social media
    for awhile.
I am now an official RWA member!I
I just finished Heather-Killough Walden last book in her Lost Angel Series-
Samael- didn’t seem of that coming. I started Monette Michaels SSI series.
I have beeen trying to focus on my writing day job crap has not helped,
but it is what it is, feel blessed to have a job!!
Hope all is well with everybody =) 

    • Silver James says:

KIMBER! We’ve missed you! Ugh on the drama llamas grazing in your yard. No fun. Hope things ease up for you. In these times, yeah, even a soul-sucking job is better than unemployment. 😦 Crossing fingers for better times ahead.

Congrats on joining RWA! It’s a good group with lots to teach. The nice thing–at least for me–about writing, is that I can escape into the stories in my head, even if I don’t always get them written down in the moment.

Hang in there and drop by when you can!
