Monday Means More Coffee

lol monday coffeeThere was a weekend. I know this because I had an OKRWA meeting and it’s only on Saturdays. And there was baseball. Of the 14U variety. I even ended up keeping score during Sunday morning’s game when the catcher’s mom/scorekeeper got dirt (love that Oklahoma wind–NOT!) in her eyes. It was fun. At OKRWA, I read the entries for our Halloween Writing Challenge. Mine didn’t win. If you ask nicely, maybe I’ll post it tomorrow as a Tuesday Tidbit. 😉 Not a tease because it’s not a book, simply a very short story.

What else?

Sports: OSU had the day off. OU beat up Kansas State. And I shouldn’t have been rooting for Michigan. I think I jinxed them. Sorry, B.E. 😦 Baseball, the Cubs aren’t doing too good against the hated Mets. Royals are up 2-0 over the Bluejays. ‘Nuff said ’bout that.

Writing: THE DEVIL’S CUT came out about 71K. Longer than I anticipated. It’s out with my CP and my betas. I admit I’m sweating this one a bit. Still not sure I got the opening right. We’ll see what they say. I’m also waiting on the cover. I’ll do a reveal as soon as I have it in my hot, little hands. Spent a few days last week dickering over the title for RDR#3. At the moment, it looks like it will be THE BOSS AND HIS COWGIRL. It’s Harlequin category, being in the Desire line. I can live with it. It will release Summer of 2016 but I don’t have an exact date yet. Will pass it along as soon as I know. I’ve got to do some formatting on TDC while I’m waiting on edits and then I’m diving into RDR#4, which will hopefully be easier to title. Working title is LAST COWGIRL STANDING. I do have a backup but it’s a secret. *shhhhh* #4 is more lighthearted and will be fun to finish.

Reading: I’m still in a slump, mostly. Rereading bits and pieces of both of Nalini Singh’s series–Guildhunter/Archangle and the Psi/Changlings. I made myself stop a full reread of Ilona Andrews’ Kate Daniels. And no, Ev, no spoilers. Just…listen faster! 😆 New books–DRAGOS GOES TO WASHINGTON. Thea Harrison has written a fun one. Big changes coming for Dragos and Pia. Currently reading A KISS BEFORE THE APOCALYPSE (Remy Chandler #1) by Thomas E. Sniegoski. Remy is a Boston PI who also happens to be an angel. It’s…interesting. Evidently, there are quite a few books in the series and luckily, my library system carries them. Not sure I’ll keep going after the first but so far, so good. Oh, I’m at 199 books on my Goodreads challenge, which was originally 200. I’ve upped it to 210 and will likely up it again.

TV: Uhm…I’m way behind on the DVR. New shows still in the mix: “Code Black,” “Blindspot,” (though I’m behind on it), and “The Player.” I also need to catch up on “The Bastard Executioner.” I have to be in the right headspace to watch it.

Aaannnndddd….that’s about it from here. Who are you rooting for, writing about, or reading?

  1. Pwetty pwease can we read your short story? :goes for cute and angelic, ends up with creepy, stops: No worries on the Michigan thing. They jinxed themselves. I mean, what the he!! were they thinking. I heard the kicker is getting death threats – which is totally uncalled for but I can’t say I didn’t think of a few horrible things to unleash upon him. It was totally sick.

Yay for TDC! Longer is good. I like longer. Yay for the RDRs. Ugh, tradpub takes too long. I want to read them now. Sorry about your reading slump. I wish I could help, but I’ve got my head in my own books and haven’t read anything else lately. As for watching TV, I’ve been mostly watching sports and Harry Potter movies.

I spent yesterday morning playing in the woods near the house – cleaning up stuff, killing more vines (it’s very viney here), moving deadfall. Now I’m paying for it. I’m re-reading Djinn2 (In Deep Wish) and loving it, but I’m still not certain whether it’ll be book 5 in the schedule or whether I’ll go with SCIU2 (Fertile Ground).

Okay. Creepy always works! 😉 I’ll put it up for tomorrow. LOL We get a lot of wild grapevine–no grapes, just the fine. If I could harvest grapes (for a wonderful Chickasaw dessert recipe), I’d let them stick around. We also get wild honeysuckle, which at least smiles nice in the summer, and some morning glories I planted a few years ago naturalized, which drives LG nuts. LOLOL

Yay on love IN DEEP WISH. I ❤ the series, but I'm all too aware of what we love and want to publish and what's selling are sometimes two different animals. 😦 Do what you think best! I'll buy and read. 😀

We really want to read your short story! Just saying. This no cable thing means I don’t get to watch most of the weekend football or MBL playoffs for the NL teams. My poor Cubbies are down, but not out yet. Fingers crossed they turn things around in Chicago. My Titans sucked a$$ yesterday and it is making it really hard to keep my head up about the team. Seriously, I went to the game with a surgical boot on so I wouldn’t miss the game. Stupid inflamed nerve in my left foot means no regular shoes for a couple of weeks.

More Caleb!!! 71K sounds great to me. So excited for The Devil’s Cut! Know my blog is open and available for any promo post, cover reveals, release day post for you always! Of course my blog is open for all your books, so RDR #3 and RDR #4 already have spots reserved as well once they have release dates. 🙂

One good thing about no cable, is no real backlog on a DVR. Though I am using Hulu Plus as my DVR now. Of course, CBS must be watched online on their website, so their shows get viewed live each week.

    • Silver James says:

The Cubs is sort of my backup team so I’d really like to see them have the chance at least. I just hope they don’t melt down. 😦

I was sort of shooting for 70K but was thinking it would be shorter. Until… 🙄 Caleb and Sade both have minds of their own, and yes, Sade is in the book a bit more than I thought she’d be. S’okay. I think it’s all good. *crosses fingers* I’ll know more once I get beta feedback. And hey, no TV? More reading! Which is why I have a clogged DVR. I’m reading (comfort variety) instead of concentrating on the TV show. 😛

  3. Not reading anything at the moment – or writing. Sometimes I just need to take a few days to recharge my batteries. I SHOULD get back into Turning Point and finish that huge beast once and for all but part of me is balking. I don’t want to leave Amy and Vance!!! Then again, I already have a brief story idea for their future daughter 😉
What has my attention right now is a story I’m trying very hard to save for NaNo. I’ve written down some ideas and bits of dialogue but I’ve managed to keep myself from outlining. It’s about a gal genetically modified gal who ends up being a ‘dream weaver’ and ultimately an FBI asset. Oh, and she has this handler… 😉

As far as TV – Bub and I are enjoying Blindspot though the gal is bordering on too Gung-Ho at times. Much like Beckett, who I love and hate at the same time UGH!!! We are also watching Limitless, which is less dramatic, more fun than some of the other shows out there, but sometimes you need something a bit more lighthearted to balance out all the crime dramas. We’re trying to finish up season 2 of Blacklist, so we can get into 3. That’s it on the new front, I think. I’ll probably think of something I missed when I hit ‘publish’.

I’m sure your beta readers will love The Devil’s Cut but I understand about opening second thoughts. I never had them before. Stories started where they started but this new idea has a bit of BG and I’m not sure how far back to start. I think I once read to start with the action so I might give that a shot and save most of the BG for conversation between the MCs. He will be new to it all, like the reader, so that will probably be the best option.

And again, I’m always amazed at how much you manage to get done. I really need to get my butt in gear and discipline myself!!!

    • Silver James says:

I read to recharge. I have to. I learned that if I didn’t read, my creativity dried up. Weird, that. But I’m slowly figuring out what works and doesn’t for me. All of us are different and there’s much happiness when we figure ourselves out! NaNo for me is RDR#4. Yeah…November 30 deadline. Ouch.

Are you going to publish Amy and Vance? Since it’s such a monster, have you considered serializing it?

      • Actually – Ash suggested splitting it into three parts and publishing them a couple of months apart. This way I don’t loose/annoy the audience (if I get one) by keeping them hanging.
I’m thinking it will end up being about 200K so that would be 60k each. But who knows what it will be after editing. My 15K story was 14,998 but 15,325 when done editing LOL
Does that sound like a wise plan?

        • Silver James says:

Yes. 200K is a huge book for most romance readers. If you can break it into a trilogy, that works beautifully. I wouldn’t wait two months, though. I’d do them either a month apart, or even 2 or 3 weeks apart. If a reader really enjoys the book, they want their fix ASAP. I know I didn’t start reading some trilogies and series until they were all published because I binge read. I’m not the only one. LOLOL Something to think about. The main thing is, do what feels right to you!
