Today is the shortest day of the year. Tonight marks the Winter Solstice, the longest night of the year and traditional celebration of Yule. When people lived more in tune with the seasons and the cadences of the star dance above, the rhythm of the seas, the travels of the moon and the sun, tonight was time to huddle around the Yule log, to contemplate and to plan as the sun is reborn on the morrow. Yeah…there’s a lot of Celtic blood running in my soul if not my actual veins.
Saturday’s party was fun. One of OKRWA’s traditions is to read the goals members wrote down at the beginning of the year and were then sealed into envelopes for safe-keeping. My goals were to launch two new series with first books, and publish the 3rd book in the Penumbra Papers. I accomplished both of those, plus the final two books in the Moonstruck series, and two Harlequin Desires. I wrote and published:
1. Night Shift (Nightriders MC #1)
2. Double Cross (Hard Target #1)
3. The Devil’s Cut (Penumbra Papers #3)
Plus, THE BOSS AND HIS COWGIRL (RDR #3) and RDR #4 (working title THE BILLIONAIRE’S INCONVENIENT COWGIRL).
Damn. No wonder my brain is fried. I am sorry I didn’t get the Moonstruck Christmas novella written and published. Next year. Not sure I’ll top the number of books for this year, but I’m going to try to equal it. Maybe. That’s for a post after the first of the year.
I’ve been vegging out to Hallmark Channel Christmas movies. Watched one yesterday starring Sam Heughan. He’s better known for playing Jamie Fraser in OUTLANDER. It was a movie from several years ago but I looked up, saw him, and thought, Damn. He looks familiar. Who is…? OMG! That’s SAM!!!! So I totally had this fangirl squee moment going on. Luckily, Lawyer Guy was out and I only scared the dogs and Adidas. I totally had to stop baking to watch this movie, even though I’ve seen it before. I still managed to bake 8 dozen cookies. Half go to LG’s office. Tomorrow night begins the yearly yeast roll production line. I make dinner roll “packages” for four close neighbors, the three James Gang households, plus cinnamon rolls for Christmas morning. Yippee. I really need to teach Baseball Boy the family recipe.
I still have shopping to do. That’s where I am this morning. Hopefully, I’ll be done and not totally exhausted by end of day. We’ll see. Reading is a sort of on-the-fly thing at the moment. I checked DRAGON STORM out of the library. That’s Katie MacAlister’s newest. I was a huge fan of her Aisling Grey books and I love dragons but this one is slow slogging. I think I’ll turn to an Audible book while cooking/baking/making out of roll dough. Not sure which one.
So, that’s it for me. How was y’all’s weekend? Who’s baking/cooking/still shopping? Who’s the Queen of Christmas and has it all done, including presents wrapped and under the tree? No, don’t answer that. I don’t want to know. I’ll just hate you. 😉
