Post-Holiday Hangover or Why I Need More Coffee

Jim Hunt Coffee ForecastI have a bad case of the Lazies. I turned off my computer Christmas afternoon and didn’t turn it back on until yesterday. And it was a struggle to make myself get on-line then. Weird, huh? Between the wild weather (Oklahoma had all four seasons in one day on Saturday), the cold on Sunday and yesterday, and I just pretty much stayed in bed under the covers listening to audio books. Part of it is I’ve done something to my right shoulder/neck and sitting at the computer yesterday aggravated it. 😦 Part of it was I pushed hard through the end of November and then just sort of…collapsed, mentally/imaginationally anyway. And yes, I am award that “imginationally” is not a word. 😆

So, Christmas was good. Stormageddon had a fire truck and plane-filled Christmas. He might not be two yet but it took him about five seconds to figure out how to turn on, press the gas pedal, and go in his battery-operated fire chief’s vehicle. After opening presents at the kids’ house, we all trooped over to the BiL/Sil’s house for brisket, baked beans, relish tray, and bread pudding. We came home and took naps. Saturday, I did a Cajun-spiced turkey breast for sandwiches and we sort of grazed our way through the rain, thunderstorms, tornadoes, sleet, ice, and smidgeon of snow. Once again, I listened to audio books, napped, and waited for branches to fall and hit the house. I didn’t even turn on the computer come Sunday, hence no weekend wrap-up yesterday. I finally dragged myself out from under the covers around 11:00 and caught up with emails and Facebook. Then I headed back to bed for a nap before getting up to make a pot of chili.

I have discovered something about Audio books: I can only listen to books I’ve read before. And I mean, have physically read the words. I never did too well in my classes where the test were based on lectures. The classes where the tests came from the textbook? Aced those puppies! I do like listening to books, but the characters and plot need to be somewhat familiar for me to really keep track of what’s going on. Yeah, yeah. I’ve already admitted I’m weird!

As an aside, I’m going to take the rest of the week off from blogging. I really should be writing. Or marketing. Or something work/career-related but I refer you back to the title. I’m suffering from a holiday hangover and don’t want to do anything that I should. So…I’m going to take this time between now and the new year to assess this past year, look ahead to the new year, and figure out some things–all to the good. I’m also going to lay on the heating pad and use the Shiatsu massagers I have to try to work out the kinks in my neck and shoulder so I can hit the New Year at a dead run. So many books to write and a Sooper-Sekrit Project™ coming next fall. So I’m going to drink coffee, listen to favorite books (I met and exceeded my Goodreads challenge so no new books until Jan. 1 for the 2016 challenge), nap, catch up on the DVR, and just relax while I plan, letting my imagination regenerate by drifting along willy-nilly. Oh, and watch football. And eat. Because…that’s how I roll. LOLOL

What’s on your to-do list for this last week of the year?

  1. This is the perfect time of year for the lazies. Lord knows, you’ve earned a week to just veg. I’ve had my computer on, but I haven’t touched my tablet – which means i haven’t been editing like I know I should. We’ll pick up again next year. We can’t help ourselves. So take this week to rest, recover, and recuperate. :hugs:

One thing you can say about the weather is that it isn’t boring.

This week I’m doing marketing (now, then, always) and I really should pick up the Fire today so I can have this edit thing done by the time Janet gets back to me with her notes for In Deep Wish. Easy peasy. I’ll also be looking at ways to increase my productivity. Turn the damn TV off, for one. Get back to working on two books at once so I can write new words again instead of just edit edit edit, for another. Stuff and junk.

I’m glad you had a nice Christmas. Feel better soon and get ready to rock 2016!

I have to write 6 reviews this week and get my “Best Books Read of 2015” post up on 12/31. I read 150 books and have in narrowed down to 33 right now. Want to get it down to 20. Not really sure that will happen. I have 1 closet of boxes I still haven’t gone through from my move in January, so my NYE will be spent throwing away/donating/putting up anything I decide to keep. Thinking I’ve lived at least a year without most of it, so will probably all be donated or thrown away. Need to get my library and movie collection in order this weekend and finish reading my first review book for 2016. I swear if I wasn’t at work, I’d take a nap right now.

I love you have found audiobooks. I love them so much! I grew up being read to from an early age, so I have no trouble listening to audiobooks for books I’ve not read, but I know many other people just like you who can only listen to books they have already read.

A nap would be awesome! Too bad I procrastinated past the point of having time for one. LOL

I always enjoy your Top Reads list. 🙂 My Amazon account hates you but… I’m doing rereads until the first of the year so I can put all the new books on 2016’s challenge. I have a bunch on my Kindle. 😀

  3. Silver-
You and Iffy have been going at Mach 1- thou maybe that number should be a bit higher *wink* on a crazy schedule of marketing, writing (which your fans love and patiently wait) and everything else you got going- so taking a little breather is understandable- especially with the wacky weather staying in is a great idea.
My focus gets distracted enough on its own*rolling eyes* so audio books don’t work I would have to keep rewinding! I agree on the lecturer verse textbook the whole having something in my hands- which why I still love the brick and mortar bookstores- if that is weird then I am in good company.
For me to get where I want to be with my writing I need to be doing just that- plain and simple *putting procrastination in a dark closet with Hannah standing guard with no coffee- bet it will stay put* rofl
The day job (thou I am blessed to have it when so many don’t) has sucked the energy out of me with all the drama- But I’m going to be trying very hard the last few days of 2015 and going into 2016 put the word Productivity with my writing front, middle and end while riding along on Life 101. I thank God for my gift of writing everyday.
Silver– I wish you resting that you so deserve, B.A. I wish you lots of musing, marketing, etc… and other writers I wish that your muse takes off like a rockets shooting words up in the sky.
*climbing back off my soap box*
Thanks ladies for all you do ❤

Awwww. Thanks, Kimber! I hope you had good holidays and that the drama llamas at work go take a hike or something! That kind of climate sucks the creativity right out of you.

You’ll find your writing mojo with the new year! (I also have something for you but it’ll be a week or so before I get into the mail. That’s on my to-do list. 😀
