Monday Chocolate and Hearts

cute-puppy-pictures-hello-im-here-to-make-your-monday-suck-lessI hope everyone made it through Valentine’s Day without a chocolate hangover. We had lunch with the kids and Only and I shared a carafe of mimosas. Pretty darn tasty. Came home and got the new microwave all hooked up and got hit with a touch of food poisoning. No fun. πŸ˜› But…skinny!

Okay, before I get to updating, standby for some fangirl squeeing! I’ve been a fan of Toni McGee Causey for years. I loved her Bobbie Faye books. I remember reading them on my way to Washington DC with Lawyer Guy and laughing out loud in the car then having to read passages to him. I’m fortunate now to be able to call her a good friend. Several years ago, we met for breakfast in New York City and she talked about a new project. Her life had spiraled, as ours do sometimes, and writing took a back seat to real life for a time. The new project–a complete 180 from her normal fare–intrigued me. fangirlI was lucky enough to beta read a very early copy of the book that ultimately became THE SAINTS OF THE LOST AND FOUND. This book is Southern Gothic. It’s dark. It’s hearbreaking. It’s haunting. And it’s so damn good that I’m putting out the money to buy it in every damn form I can lay my hands on. So here’s the deal, Toni and her publisher are running an awesome pre-release contest–it’s coming out in March. GO HERE to get in on it. And CHECK IT OUT HERE to see what it’s all about. FYI? That amazing cover was photographed and designed by Toni. She is a woman of many amazing talents and there are times I think I go to New Orleans just to hang out with her. LOLOL

Okay. Back to the weekly update.

Reading: Still on the contest stuff. Nothing I can talk about. I have BROTHERHOOD IN DEATH, DIRT ON THE NINTH GRAVE and a bunch of other books waiting on my Kindle. Soon, my pretties, soon! I did finish listening to Jennifer Lyon’s THE PROPOSITION from her PLUS ONE CHRONICLES. She had a male narrator and it was really interesting to hear how he did the sexy bits. If y’all are familiar with the book, you know it’s sexy. I have two more contest reads to finish and review and then I get to read for pleasure again. Not sure what I’ll listen to next when I exercise. Depends on how the tummy feels. I missed Friday and Sunday. Oops.

TV: Still loving Lucifer. Slowly catching up on Outlander and Lost Girl. LG and I bought SPECTRE for each other for Valentine’s Day. It’s on the list for WATCH SOON! Because…Daniel Craig! I also ordered a 2006 flick titled SKINWALKERS. It’s about werewolves (GENETIC werewolves), warring packs (one of which rides motorcycles, maybe both), and a young half-wolf boy who might lift some curse. It’s a horror flick. I don’t normally do horror but…but…the premise! I’ll let y’all know how it goes.

Music: Bought Sam Hunt’s new album, Montevallo. It’s a good one and I have some inspiration songs on it for both Red Dirt and Nightriders so YAY!

Some of you might have the day off, since it’s President’s Day. Hope you enjoy your free time if that’s the case. If you have to work? 😦 Now, tell me what all y’all are reading, watching, and what you did over the weekend. Oh! And how many opened their Valentine Newsletter from me and read the sekrit love story from Sade and Sinjen? Did you like it? Huh? Huh? Didja? Why yes, I do need the positive reinforcement, why do you ask? Uhm…needy writer here! πŸ˜‰ Have a great day!

  1. Okay, I was a naughty monkey and totally forgot to read the short until just now. And wouldn’t you know it, it’s not letting me in. Glitch in the system or is it just me? It’s probably the Universe kicking my butt because I didn’t read this yesterday. Derp.

Yay for Toni! I’m so happy for her. =o) I haven’t been reading doodle lately. Too wrapped up in my own stuff, I guess. TV: The new season of Swamp People started, so there’s that. Real Detective, The Kid’s Baking Championship, Child Genius, The Profit. Music: Retro Disco while I exercise. Other: I had the free weekend for DE. I did a breakdown of the numbers on Outside the Box for them what are interested. I read some more of Up Wish Creek. It needs a lot of work, but it’s not due out until August, so I have time.

Spectre is really good. We bought it recently too. Daniel Craig made him human and it was perfect. And I did read the Valentine’s snippet πŸ™‚ ❀

Mr. SM and I bought new pillows for our bed (we desperately needed new ones) and slept in this morning because of them. It was decadent. Looking forward to your sekrit projects, Silver.

    • Silver James says:

Even though I grew up on Sean Connery’s Bond, it’s Craig’s Bond who stole my heart away from Connery. I love the dark, edginess to his Bond and I’m really sorry to see him leave the franchise. 😦

So I got sick coming home from Coastal Magic Con last Monday and still am battling bronchitis to this day. At least no fever now, but also very little voice. Have 2 more contest books to get read along with all the review books. OMG you need to get to Brotherhood in Death! Seriously one of my favorites in the series. Also love me some Gabe Rossi in Barefoot with a Bad Boy! Currently reading Beyond Ruin by Kit Rocha between contest books.

I’ve watched almost nothing on tv in the last week. I’ve basically be asleep if I’ve been at home. lol

    • Silver James says:

I’m so jealous you get to read the books early! But I’m sorry you’re sick. Ugh. Com crud is the worst. Brotherhood is next. Maybe. Because…GABE! But I’ll wait. That whole anticipation thing. LOLOL Now feel better!
