I was asked to be in a box set. The book I was asked to share was short on the word count and since I had this short story (the VERY short 7K story set in the Nightrider world), I suggested I expand it a little as a bonus novella. So, that’s what I did, taking it up to just over 11K words. I was closing out some extraneous windows and when asked about saving changes to that Word doc, I clicked NO. Because…stupidity. Hours spent trying to recover. Nope. Didn’t happen. So…from 5 am until midnight yesterday, I rewrote the damn thing. Almost. I still have the last chapter to go. The good news, the second rewrite gave me more words. By the time I finishing revising and editing, I should be over 12K.
That sad, I’m exhausted, my brain feels like what’s living under my bed, and my body is convinced it’s 100. My ankles look like when I was pregnant with The Only (swollen from sitting at my desk for 18 hours day–3 days in a row.)
Yeah, the glamorous life of a writer. And I still have RDR#5 to work on. I’m behind on it. Can you say, “glutton for punishment?” And…oh, yeah. IDIOT! Just remind me that I thrive on stress and deadlines. Bring on the coffee. Bring on the inspiration. Bring on…something.
So, my life will be pretty boring and I probably won’t be around a lot this week until I get caught up. It’ll be worth it in the end. Trust me. You guys get the benefit. *nods* So…I’ve cleared the decks, finished my first cup of coffee, headed for my second and then many, MANY words today. *nods*
I want to mention that my friend and constant commenter here, B.E. Sanderson has a book birthday today! Love dark suspense? You need this book! Just sayin’…
Fertile Ground – S.C.I.U. Book Two
No consent required.
Adam Wyte has been nothing special his entire life, but everyone will remember him once his mission is complete. His diabolical plan to sow his seed and reap sons is so far along, no one can stop him now. And his carefully chosen list of women will help him—whether they want to or not.
Justice is essential.
With the shadow of Jace Douglas’ success hanging over her, Agent Teri Buchanan transferred away from the S.C.I.U. headquarters intent on proving she’s as good as the next woman. And if moving to the Detroit branch also lets her bury the memories of her own attack, even better. When her first assignment means hunting down a serial rapist turned killer, she can’t let her fears interfere with her job. Even if she ends up confronting a need to carry out more justice than she ever received.
What did y’all do this weekend? I hope it was fun and that y’all have fun stuff coming up this week. I’ll be living vicariously through you, and reading B.E.’s book whenever I can snatch a moment!
