Wednesday Words: Random Numbers

wurkn-on-mai-plan-for-word-domination-caleb-pupGetting a late start on the blog, though I had an early start to my day. Don’t ask. Same ol’, same ol’ and that’s boring. 😉 So…todays #1lineWed theme is a line from page 5, 16, 27 or 38. So…since I’m fighting writer’s block, maybe picking some lines will help me get off high-center. Quick rundown–Peony “Peni” Comanescu is the surrogate mother of twins. Their sperm donor is a powerful man with mob ties. Due to circumstances and on account of because, she’s run away and ended up at the Casa Blanca Resort and Spa on Mimosa Key. Dominic Karras, from the Hard Target team, has been recruited by Gabe Rossi to help protect her and the twins until they can be spirited away.

So…for your reading enjoyment (hopefully). a short excerpt from page 27 of DOUBLE TROUBLE:

Dom returned to the kitchen, his thumbs flying over the text app on his phone. Peni’s story pissed him off. So did her panic. And damn if her cringing away like he was going to hit her topped off his outrage with a liberal helping of hot sauce. He’d never laid hands on a woman in anger and any man who did didn’t deserve to be called a man.

He texted the information he had gotten from her to Gabe, and added that he thought the girl might try to run again. He planned to stay awake but if she went out the window, he might not be able to catch her in time. Gabe needed to alert resort security. He was sure as hell positive that Vasile’s attack dog was hanging around just waiting for a chance to act. He might have lost track of her but this Cezar dude would turn up sooner than later. Dom just hoped it was much later—after he’d spirited Peni and the kids off Mimosa Key and had them stashed under new IDs in a place Vasile couldn’t touch them.

Now, I really need new words–like a minimum of 3K today. *sigh* Any of you have words to share?

  1. Awesomesauce as usual. You rock. Now, get to work. :whipcrack:

LOL, like I have any room to crack the whip on anyone. I’m such a toad. Here’s a bit from Natural Causes, though – which I really need to get in gear on or it’ll never be finished.

“Yes, sir. She’s… She’s scattered everywhere just off this little ravine.” Dennis thought he heard Ray cover the microphone on his cell, but he could still discern the sounds of retching. Once Ray composed himself again, he said, “No doubt they saw what they thought they saw.”
“And you know it’s a woman?”
    “The torso… It’s still wearing a bra.”
Which meant it was either a woman or a transvestite. In Western Colorado, the former was more probable, but he wouldn’t make any assumptions until what passed for a medical examiner in the mountains examined the remains.
“Keep the witnesses there and I’ll be up as soon as I can.” Ray gave him directions to the site. Pressing the button to end the call, he picked up the receiver again. Jillian wouldn’t like the fact that he wouldn’t see her before she drove to Denver for her flight, but she would understand. He hoped.
“Let me guess,” she said when she picked up the phone, “you’re not going to make it home to see me off.”
“I’m sorry, Babe, but you won’t believe me if I tell you.”
“Then save it for when I call to tell you I’m there and I’m safe. Unless it means your safety, of course.” She let out a short huff of breath. “Damn. Now you have to tell me what it is or I’ll worry from here to Boston.”
Dennis didn’t want to tell her. He was half-afraid she’d refuse to go on this trip, and she needed time with her best friend. But he also knew how he’d feel if the situations were reversed. “Hikers found a body up by Redtail Lodge. Could be a cougar attack.”

    • Silver James says:

Or it could be homicide… *bwahaha*

      Yeah…about those words…

I’m going to be working while I’m in San Diego. Ah well. An excuse to occasionally hide in my room to get away from the crowds. 😆

Got something to say?
