Thursday Thoughts: Seeking Emotion

Romance writers are all about the romance, right? About the sexy times and longing and desire and…yeah. All that there stuffs. And people seem to think it’s easy to tell a story where romance is the heart of things. No pun intended. But it’s not. The easy part is describing how Tab A fits into Slot B and who’s hand is where and which way heads turn so lips can meet in a searing kiss. No, really. Writing the sexy bits is pretty easy. It’s also boring. The hard part is going deeper–to find the real emotion behind the actions.

As the Universe points out:

To better understand where you’re at, Silver, seek to understand why you want what you want, getting to the emotions you’re after.

To go even deeper, ask yourself why you think you can’t feel those now.

Feel them now, Silver, and more reasons will follow.

It’s that digging deep, seeking the true emotional center of the hero and heroine, that is the true story in a romance. All the rest helps tell the story, but the characters must have heart, must feel, must be willing to sacrifice and get hurt and give everything they are to find that elusive spark that takes attraction all the way to love.

On this day after Valentine’s Day, I’m working to give two more characters a chance at joining their hearts. And I want to thank you, my readers, for following along on their journey. Here’s to romance and to hearts finding their way to each other. I ❤ y'all.

  1. Yep, yep, and yep. And yay for joining more hearts!

I hope you enjoy the wee bit of romance in Blink.

I ❤ you, too, Silver. :hugs:

I’ll enjoy every word of Blink! I’m working on the black moment and a bit of character “torture” before Tait and Lauren get their HEA. But that’s the fun of romance. 😆

Got something to say?
