Monday Midway

We’re a bit over halfway through October. October is a favorite month. Usually. Why? Because the weather changes. Days get shorter, nights get cooler, the World Serious (and I can watch all the play-off games because I don’t really care who wins, well…except for one team…), the sky seems bluer and I’m normally invigorated due to cooler temps.I’m not sure why I’m not feeling it this year. I have some ideas but…whatever.

Last week was largely unproductive. My head seemed to explode from the idiocy of the world and once that happened, I just never seemed to get back on track, despite my good intentions every day. I hit a snag in the revisions, bot bummed, and set it aside. I scribbled out less than 1K words on the WIP but they were mostly uninspired so I set it aside. When I do a writing prompt, I know I’m on to something when I hit the word count but I have more–either before the scene or after, or in the middle that I can expand. Last week? Not so much.

I took long naps. Not that I meant to, just that I’d lay down under the covers because I had a headache (see head exploding) or my feet got really cold. And I’d fall asleep for a couple of hours. That’s not good. That’s an avoidance technique that my brain uses. The only thing of even slight interest was the Close Encounter of the Skunk Kind the dogs and I had early one morning. Thank goodness the critter was on the back side of a large tree trunk, Jake recognized the danger and disengaged, but poor Boone had fallen and couldn’t get up. He’s almost 14 now and that’s ancient for a large breed dog. His back hips are both weak and if he sits or if he falls because he’s trying to move too fast, he can’t get back up. He caught a bit of the spray, though the skunk was fairly polite. He sprayed just enough to make us all wary and then he escaped under the fence. I still have two spots in the house (including my office–ugh!) where the scent is lingering. Fun times. Not!

Anyway…

OSU beat Texas. This gives me a big happy. My Pokes are not ranked 8th and 10th, depending on the poll. Talking heads that normally blow them off and now talking about how people need to show them respect. 🙄 OU also won after switching to a new quarterback. They moved back into the top five. Giants lost. I have several friends who are Giants fans. Sorry, folks. I’d say I was rooting for them but that would mean my jinx was active (which is why I sometimes can’t watch my Cards and/or Cowboys play). Yankees got beat. REALLY sorry about that because…Red Sox won. :p Now it’s Sox vs. Astros and Dodgers vs. Atlanta. Three out of four isn’t bac and I can watch the games with peace of mind re: my jinx. Good baseball, that’s all I’m asking for.

I’m relistening to a Dannika Dark series set in her Mageri/Breed world. I much prefer her books about the shifter Breeds. I just never got invested in the Mageri. Anway, I’m spending time with the Weston pack in the Seven series. It’s a good place to be–there’s angst, interesting characters, action, magic, and lots of finding the right one and winning them over.

Off to Wallyworld this morning. That can either get me back on track or derail me completely. 😆 Hopefully, I get on track. How about y’all? Are you on track?

  1. I’m sorry you had such a bad and brain-sploding week. I’d advise against watching the news, but it’s everywhere. Feel free to send me a rant-o-gram if you need to. It might help. As for the skunk, eww. Does Febreze work on skunk smell? I’d give it a whirl if you haven’t already.

Yay for the Pokes! Also yay for OU. In baseball, we’re at the point of rooting for whoever wins the NL because we think the BS(ox) and the Asstros both suck. Yay for interesting books! Good luck at the Wallyworld today. :hugs:

We spent the weekend cutting up wood for our future woodburning stove. Hubs figures we’ve got about 3/4 of a cord stacked now. Hard physical labor works wonders for keeping the head from ‘sploding. Unfortunately, it’s all still there when we come inside again. I didn’t get any edit notes input, though, which is not good. Maybe today. I also didn’t finish reading that anthology like I’d hoped. I also made a pizza. Yay me.

Yay for pizza and wood! Go NL! (We’re an NL family. LOL) I just need to close the games tab, ignore the world and get my arse in gear. I can fix the blah. I KNOW this. Blank pages? Not so much. Time’s running out, so I need to jumpstart my brain. Imma gonna work on that. Or crawl back into bed to recover from Wallyworld. 🙄 At least I go early before the true PoWW come out. 😉 Hope you get some edits and reading done though it’s supposed to be really nice out today. Maybe I’ll just print out the darn book and go sit in the sun and edit by hand, like in the old days.

Got something to say?
