Sometimes, I have a tendency to get wrapped around the axle. Yeah, I know. It’s an exercise in futility. But hey, we all have our buttons, yeah? I certainly do. I’ve been known to yell at the TV. Which scares the furbabies. Sometimes, the TV yells at me. Which does NOT scare me. Much. I’m not crazy. No, seriously. I’m not. And as you sit there staring at this wondering what the ever-lovin’ what-the-what-what is going on in my head, let me share this little gem from the Universe…
Young souls lean on science, Silver.
Mature souls lean on faith.
And old souls, Silver, prefer long walks and short talks; whistling to hip-hop, country, or rock; and on occasion, tree spotting.
There! On the horizon! Oak!
The Universe
©www.tut.comOf course science is important, Silver, for counting things, containing viruses, and calculating warmth; it’s just a poor measure of the heart.
I see all of you scratching your heads at this point. I do have one. A point, that is, and one that ties this all together. As a writer, I tend to stay away from hot button topics. If I consistently hit the best sellers lists and had all that name recognition? I’d probably still shy away from them. As it is, I can’t afford to alienate half of my readers. This old world is in a sorry state and yeah, the sides are pretty much split down the middle. Science vs. Faith. Rights and Wrongs. Us vs. Them. Now go back and read the message from the Big U. Wouldn’t it be nice if we all found a little more heart? Yeah, I can get behind that. If you’re looking for me, I’m headed out for a long walk, followed by a short conversation, whistling to whatever tune is on the radio, and oh, look! Oak tree! And then I’m going to take that heart that I’ve found and I’m going to put it into words because what is romance about if not about heart? How’s your heart today?
Sometimes, when I’m standing out back smoking, I try to identify the trees I can see. I’m easily 50ft away from them, so it’s a hard game to play with myself. The honey locust was an easy one. Small leaves, doncha know. Speaking of oak trees, did you know the ones with the spiky leaves are varieties of black oak and the ones with rounded leaves are white oak? And that the scarlet oaks are types of black oak? Yep, I’m a tree geek, as well as a bird nerd.
Sorry, what was the question? Oh, yeah, what is in my heart today? Trees, apparently. Anyway, I’m just sitting here listening to the rain fall, knowing I don’t have to bother to get my hair all nice for work because I’ll look like a wet dog by the time I walk from my car into the office anyway. ;o)
We have golden oaks. Oaks are amazing. I could do without the sweetgum (those seed balls are ouchy) and the ash, even though it’s huge. It’s seed thingies are ouchy too! But yeah, I like trees more than not having trees. All that shade, don’cha know. 😉 Enjoy your rain. It’s a hand-water day today. I’ve been out there for two plua hours trying to get a few of the plants to struggle through. Stupid water restrictions! Later, tater.
