When I was a teen–and that includes my college years, I was not a big fan of rock. Or roll. My first LP was the Beatles’ “Rubber Soul.” My brother gave it to my for a birthday, along with his old stereo because he got a newer, fancier one. Oh, I enjoyed the “British Invasion” but it was Gerry and the Pacemakers, Herman’s Hermits, the Dave Clark Five. Then there was the Beach Boys, The Monkees, Gordon Lightfoot, and Neil Diamond. On be still my heart! I swore that Neil Diamond wrote the soundtrack to my life. No, really. He did! Anyway, I don’t remember much these days but I can still sing along with the radio. Neil put out an LP, “Hot August Nights.” And yeah, all those songs he sang at the Greek Theatre in LA compiled together in this LP? In 1972, it was the essential soundtrack of my life.
Ok, moving on from the nostalgia. That was partially due to the fact the LG and I celebrated our 39th wedding anniversary on Saturday. Why we chose to have a garden wedding on a hot August day? Don’t ask. It’s a long story. And mostly boring but it was a pretty wedding in my parents’ very large backyard and then we headed to Colorado for our honeymoon–the first half spent at the beautiful and historic Broadmoor Hotel in the Colorado Springs and the second half in my parent’s Air Stream trailer at Lake City, Colorado.
We also had siren test on Saturday which was followed by lunch at our fave Mexican restaurant with the Kids. Yummers. Sunday, we lazed. I’m still nursing my right shoulder and it was hot and there was “On Scene Live” episodes to watch. By the time the nighttime Cardinals’ games are over and I switch, I’m usually asleep within the first ten minutes. Yay for DVRs!
I got some work done last week, surprisingly. Stormy was here off and on but as he’s starting 3rd grade next week, he pretty much intertains himself if his Big Daddy is otherwise occupied. I added over 2K words to UNDER THE ASSASSIN’S MOON and I should *knock wood* have the first pass finished today–once I get back from my usual Wallyworld run. And yes, Stormy is here today. I also added new words to CROSSFIRE.
Weather is cooling off–at least for this week. Relatively speaking. Highs predicted in the 90s rather than the 100s. That’s a plus. Have I mentioned that I am soooo ready for Fall?!?!
I’ve been listening to Kit Rocha’s Beyond series. The books are dark and dirty-sexy dystoipians. I haven’t actually read or listented to them since 2017. Wrong headspace, I guess. Not sure why I’m in that space now. 🤷🏼♀️ I’d planned on relistening Nalini Singh’s Trinity series in anticipation of STORM’S ECHO which released tomorrow. Ah well, best laid plans and all that.
Anyway, that’s my world at the moment. What’s up in yours?
