Thursday Thoughts: Universal Life

It’s been a weird month. It seems like I get a “notice” popping up in my news feeds on a daily basis about somebody famous dying. Gena Rowlands. Peter Marshall. Alain Delon. Phil Donahue. That’s in the last 7 days. There have been a lot this year. I keep saying I’m older than dirt, which means all my “icons” are also. It leaves a melancholy taste on my tongue. My Moonstruck Wolves can smell emotions and I realized that I’ve never had a melancholy scent. The closest I’ve gotten is regret, which translates to wet ashes and dead roses, or perhaps resignation with notes of damp, moldy earthy around an old, abandoned house. What brought this mood on? This message from the Universe…

It’s being alive, Silver, that makes you rich.

So easy to forget,
The Universe

P.S. And no matter how you spend each day, Silver, they make you more. More awesome. I meant to add awesome!

I came far closer to dying this past spring than I really want to think about much. I’m not ready to head out into the great beyond. I like the idea of life. A lot. Life is awesome! I also like the idea of bringing figments of my imagination to life, creating them to seem real so that people reading my books are invested in their lives. Love them or hate them, I want people to think of them as actual people. As friends. Or enemies. And maybe the occasional book boyfriend because of that whole romance genre thing. 😉 Anyway, I think I’m going to incorporate a bit of melancholy in the current WIP. What do you think melancholy would smell like? I’ve come up with two ideas and I’ll let y’all vote on it (or if somebody has a better description I’ll steal! ) and I’ll use the most popular one in the description.

Pick one:

A. Dusty books and red wine

B. White lilies and damp earth

My first thought as I was reading this was that melancholy would smell a lot like old potpourri – slight flowery scent underneath musty/dusty smell. Old potpourri makes me melancholy. If not that, then I was going to choose dusty books and red wine, but the scent of dusty books makes me happy. Ooo, moldy books and damp earth? Both of those would make me melancholy.

I’m super happy you didn’t die this spring. I like knowing you’re here. I like knowing if I need you, all I have to do is reach out and there you are. So, I’ll tell you what I’ve told Hubs – you’re not allowed to die. So there. =op

(And you do know that if you need me, I’m here. Always. :hugs:)

I’m not ready by any means and I have decided that I’m going to live long enough to see if the world turns into Eve Dallas’s world in the In Death books. (2060s-ish). I think I shall stay 71, sort of like staying 30. 😉 And yeah I’m here, you’re there, and we are sistahs from different mistahs! FYI, I like your picks. 😀

  2. I also am so glad you are still with us. You have been a friend, cheerleader and a badass writer. I just re read the whole Moonstruck series, after I found a newsletter you sent for Christmas in like 2016, Christmas decorations war, Joy wanting to learn to threw not like a girl😉, Damn I miss the 69th, and hope we eventually have the General * Scorched Earth* to hell by the next generation 😊

I pick B give your WIP, thou some Irish Whiskey would add to the mix.

Have a good day, I have something to send your way, just need to get myself in gear.

    Laterz

🤗 Awww. Thank you. I miss the 69th too, though they are mostly living HEAs in Blaidd’s Gap. I did have MOONSTRUCK: RETRIBUTION on my to-do list for this year. Not sure it’ll happen but it’s in the queue. There’s so much to write stuck in my head–another reason to stick around until I’m 120+ 😀

I didn’t know about Peter Marshall 😢. It does seem like every time I turn around another icon is gone. It’s sad.

Okay I vote for B but I was heading down the same path as BE. Old potpourri does it for me too.

Sure hope your day was great!

Potpourri makes me sneeze even when it’s fresh and then my nose is clogged and I can’t smell a thing. LOL I’ll take y’all’s words for it though. I wonder if my alpha Wolves would know what potpourri smells like? 🤔 Hrmm….
