Monday Moods

Once again, Monday has reared it’s head. That’s okay. While I’m not taking the whole day off, I do plan on spending some time doing other thing. What those things are, I’m not sure. I plan to play it by ear so today will be an adventure. Maybe.

MOONSTRUCK MAFIA: BOSTON is off to the “staff.” Which is a joke. I don’t have a staff. Lord knows I wish I did, especially when it comes to social media and advertising. Luckily, I have good friends who have volunteered to beta read and proofread for all the littles stuff I missed. While the beta reading is going on, I’ll be working on updating front and back matter. That’s things like the copyright page and book list, any author notes, pleas for reviews and recommendations to friends and family. You know, that kind of stuff. Then I’ll spend some time looking for photos to use for graphics to advertise the book. That can be a fun rabbit hole. The picture searching, the writing and doing not so much.

I have a serious question for y’all. I’m not kidding when I say this book is a behometh. It’s 350 pages in Word and a whopping 157K words. As a result, there’s a clown-car load of characters. What do y’all think about character lists? You know, a playbill of sorts. Good guys, good girls, baddies, hangers-on. That sort of thing. Would that help? Would people even look at it? And should it be in the front or the back? Inquiring writers want to know.

In other news, sports pretty much was a bust this weekend. The Mets are still in the NLCS. They were my dad’s team so OMG! (I really should look on the net to see what that means. It’s something Mets fans are doing.) Stormy had two soccer matches up the turnpike. They lost the first one but won the second. Only said he had good games.

I finished Darynda Jones’s Sunshine Vicram trilogy. They’re fun. I wish there were more. On a whim, I’ve started in on her Charley Davidson Grim Reaper series. It’s been awhile.

Since the alarm on my phone is the Brantley Gilbert song “Bottoms Up.” I have bad news for me. Every time Iffy hears it she starts going starry-eyed and thinking about turning Gilbert’s music video character into a Wolf and building a historical paranormal story around it. 🤦🏼‍♀️ This I do NOT need! I need to write the next Nightrider book, the next Penumbra book, and putting together the compendium volumn that will finish out the Moonstruck: Genesis books. Oh, and a Hard Target book. I need a time machine!

It’s finally starting to feel a bit like Fall around here. It’s about time! Today’s high is supposed to be mid-70s and we might only get up into the 60s mid-week. Gosh, I might even turn off the AC. That will depend on the pollen count. Ragweed is my kryptonite and tis the season.

On that note I will say adieu. Things to do, place to go, rabbit holes to fall down. What’s going on in your neck of the woods?

You did the hard part. Take a break. Take a whole day off or something. I started my staff work yesterday. I’m 1% in. I think with this size book, a ‘cast of characters’ might be a good idea. Put it at the front and link to it in your TOC for the ebook. Yay for your Dad’s Mets. Yay for Stormy’s soccer! Yay for reading good books! Don’t get me started on new book ideas when other books still need to be written. I love them and I hate them. Yay for cooler weather! I’ve already had the heat on. (And the next day, had to turn the AC back on again. LOL)

Not much going on around here. Proofreading an awesome book. Marketing for Wish Hits the Fan. It’s Monday. I woke up at 3:45 and I probably need a nap already. Blerg.

I really am leaning toward that cast of characters list. I mean, I do one as I write anyway so it’s mostly done. Something to think about.

True story: After I sent the MS off, I found a note to self and had to do a search to too things to fix. LOL (got’cha changed to gotcha and something with o’ words. Don’t ask! 🙄 ) Glad you are enjoying it so far.

People need to go get WISH HITS THE FAN! (and the red of the books in the series!) I LOVE with lots of ❤ ❤ ❤ the Djinn books! Talk about all kinds of awesome!!!!

      Naps are good. Just sayin'.

  2. A list would be helpful, when authors do like a family tree, glossary of terms like foreign names pronounced, etc… It’s helpful to me the reader.

Your staff rocks, 🤘🤘🤘because you do.

Lots of votes for the list. And when I use foreign words, (mostly Gaelic), I tend to do the phonetic pronunciation in the character’s thoughts. LOL But yeah, I foresee a character list.

And thanks for the vote of confidence. 😉

I’ve read a few series with a ton of characters and the authors have all had character lists at one time or another. I think it’s a great idea.

Good for Stormy. I like that he had a positive statement on his games.

It’s chilly today and tomorrow we’re supposed to stay in the 40’s. I’m good with it, hubs, not so much. I did put the cuddl duds micro fleece sheets on the bed for him yesterday. Yes, I went to bed in t tiny t-shirt and threw off all the covers.

I hope the day is going well for you.

The day is laid back so it’s all good. All the votes from various places tend to be yay on the list. We’re supposed to hit low 40s maybe 30s tomorrow night and 60s on Wednesday. I usually wait until DST day to switch sheets and summer spread for winter comforter. I remember the days of always being cold but have learned it’s easier to get warm than to cool off! Yay for the “change.” (Written in sarcasm font.) 🙄
