This is Nessie. She’s the garden statue that resides in the island in the center of my driveway. She’s pretty in the snow. And there’s a bunch of it! I measured in two spots. One was 6.5″. The other was 7″. Yeah… Lots of snow. On top of the snow came single-digit highs and subzero wind chills. I dashed out a few times over the weekend in order to refill bird feeders. My face hurt. After 2 minutes. Every time. 🥶
In other news, not much else is going on. LG has to get out today–doctor appointments. The 2nd one is at night (an MRI) so not sure if he’ll reschedule. I have one Tuesday afternoon. Not sure the snow will be melted but hopefully the roads are a bit less snowy by then. I have AWD in my Highlander, along with 4WD low. I can get places. I’d just rather not. We’re still waiting on the paperwork and check from the insurance company on LG’s truck. They totaled it out. He’s found a replacement but can’t do anything without the check and paperwork on the old truck. Anyway. We have one car at the moment.
I did a little writing. I hope to do more this week. We’ll see.
I finished off my relisten of Suzanne Wright’s Olympus Pride series. It was fun. I’m about to finish off the 3rd book in Ilona Andrews’s Hidden Legacy first trilogy.. It just dropped in the Graphic Audio full-cast dramatized adaptation. Yes, I marathoned all three. I’ll wait on the second trilogy until they release from GA. I hope it is sooner than later.
In other news…there isn’t any. So, if you’ve survived Fern–and who the hell thought it was a good idea to name a ferocious winter storm freakin’ Fern?!?–I hope all is well and you are staying warm. If it’s in your area now, same wish. Stay save and warm! Anybody do anything fun? I’m bored.

I love your Nessie! She’s so pretty right now. (Which is about the only good thing weather like this has to offer.) Stay safe out there on your errands. It’s not your driving I’m worried about, it’s the other people. :hugs: Yay for writing, yay for reading! I think it’s stupid to name winter storms at all, but calling this one Fern is asinine.
All is well here. We’re safe and warm. We’re also sore from shoveling. That’s all we’ve done… and it wasn’t fun. Sorry. I’m thinking about making something yummy today – pizza or bread, I think. We’ll see. Other than that, I need to get back to editing. Right now, I have ThunderButt (aka Sawyer) on the back of my chair, and I’m trying not to tip over. He’s a load of cat, lemme tell ya. Oof.
Y’all be careful with all that shoveling. Sool glad Drover is AWD. We don’t shovel. LOL Glad you got snow and not ice and are all snug and warm. Bread and pizza both sound good. Which did you decide?
I ended up making another loaf of Raisin Pecan Quick Bread – with all the right ingredients and an adjusted temperature. It turned out awesome. I’ll probably post the recipe tomorrow.
Cool! And yummers!
Good morning! Nessie is cute! I think I’d rather have the snow than the terrible ice we got. At least there’s some traction in that.
Not only do we have ice and subzero wind chills, but my furnace is still missing a board that was ordered before Christmas. So, we’re cold inside as well. Still. There’s no end in sight, either. Trane is an epic fail. Thank God we have electricity for the multiple space heaters we had to buy. And we drink a lot of hot beverages.
Stay warm and dry!
Oh, goodness, Liz! Praying you don’t lose electricty like so many have out that way! Ice is the devil. Literally. It brings down powerlines and trees and makes eve walking a dangerous thing. Ughughugh on the back-ordered part! I know you need the space heaters but pleasepleaseplease be careful! Soooo many fires start with those suckers. I hope your temps improve before ours! We’re good and warm. Y’all need the reprieve. Stay safe and warm!!!! ❤
Thank you!
I love Nessie! She does look very pretty with the snow.
We ended up getting a little over a foot of snow and the cold temperatures. The temps are supposed to stay very low too. Can’t blame you for not wanting to go outside. It can be brutal.
Harrison and family have had no power in Nashville. Last night they were all bundled up in their living room with the fireplace going. As you know, contractor fireplaces are for show not heat. They are very cold. Hopefully the power is restored soon. Ice really stinks.
As for FREN, who the heck decided we needed to name every freaking storm? It’s all part of the hype to get people watching.
I just started Senator Kennedy’s book, HOW TO TEST NEGATIVE FOR STUPID: AND WHY WASHINGTON NEVER WILL. It is him – I love it 😆.
I hope all goes well with the Dr. appointments. Stay warm.
Ice is the devil! And poor Harrison. Hopefully they have power back by now. LG heard that crews had restored well over 3/4s of the grid. I’m with you on naming the storms that aren’t hurricanes.
I ❤ Sen. Kennedy. He is a national treasure! I'll have to look into the book. If he did an audio–recorded by himself–I'd be all over it!
Hang in there and stay warm.
This is Monday, so business as usual (as much as possible). Laundry, pintos and corn bread and a thorough house cleaning to remove the layers of week end accumulation! (Some one needs to do a series of posts on how to train household members.)
Nessie is so cute! Very unique!
I hope you’ll be able to get out for your appointment. Be careful! ♥
LG’s got rescheduled for next week. Mine is tomorrow and LG has been out driving this afternoon so tomorrow afternoon shouldn’t be too bad. Schools are still out tomorrow so there should also be less than normal traffic. Main roads are fine. It’s the neighborhoods that are iffy. Hope you got it all done and have time to relax and enjoy the rest of the day.
Good to hear you will be able to get out. I saw one car go by this morning…first one I have seen in two days. The snow plow has run but the roads still have ice on them. No school today!
The main roads are mostly clear. They’ll go black ice tonight when everything refreezes but we had not problems this afternoon. Neighborhood streets are still snow packed but we have AWD and we both learned out to drive safely on this stuff. No school here since Friday and not tomorrow for some. Poor parents. 😆
No school for us so far this week either.
