Tuesday Tidbits: Hits and Misses

As predicted, the Super Bowl was boring. I did care who won but it would have been nice to have some real football shoved in there between the commercials. I didn’t actually time the difference but I’m pretty sure that for every 2 minutes of football, there was 5 minutes of commercials. For the most part, the commercials were utterly forgettable. Or boring. Or full of self-righteous virtue signalling.

There were 119 commercials from the start of the pregame singing through to the after-game talk. The numbers broke down like this:

  • Pregame/Intro: 17
  • First Half: 44
  • During Half-time: 20
  • Second Half: 33
  • Post Game: 5

I did NOT see the commercials during the half-time show. We switched over the alternative presented by TPUSA because Brantley Gilbert and Lee Brice! They are favorites. The weird funny bunny dude? Not so much. Anyway, I missed a couple of commercials I might have liked, based on the company involved so at some point, I may go back to watch them on YouTube or something. In any case, I watched almost a hundred commercials. There are 13 that I can remember the next day (as I’m typing this on Monday). My top 2 favorites are listed first. After that, they are listed in the order they appeared.

  • Budweiser Clydesdale and Eagle
  • Lay’s Potato Chips “Last Harvest” (It’s your farm now…)
  • State Farm Ins “Bon Jovi Living on a Prayer”
  • Toyota “Go farther, kids!”
  • Michelob Ultra “The Mentor” (Kurt Russell, y’all!!!) Ok, yeah. Big crush there.
  • Pepsi “The Choice” (Coke polar bear defects)
  • Redfin “Neighbors” (new family moves in, doesn’t “fit” until they do-a little preachy but I liked it
  • Dove “Girls Sports”
  • Pringles “I need a man” (so she builds him out of Pringles chips…)
  • Xfinity “Jurassic Park take 2” (funny and great use of AI, just sayin’)
  • Alexa-1 Chris Hemsworth “what can go wrong” Funny AND Chris Hemsworth!
  • Red Bull Dogs in Love
  • Hellman’s Mayo Neil Diamond is in the house, sweet Caroline!

That’s it. Those are the ones I enjoyed and would consider using/buying those products. There were more than many that had LG and I staring at each other and mouthing WTF?!!? A few stand out but I’m not listing them. They don’t need air space from me. So there it is. That’s my list. Any you agree with? Disagree with? Want to add?

I didn’t watch the football or either of the shows. (With Roku, I would’ve had to pay for the football and with TPUSA, I really don’t like Kid Rock.) Of the commercials you listed, I’ve seen two – the Budweiser eagle and the Bon Jovi one. (Really don’t like Jon either and that song gives me flashbacks from high school, so I muted the commercial.) I’m looking forward to catching the others you mentioned. Mom and I give each other heads-up about commercials we like, so it’ll be fun to see which ones she mentions that you have in common.

Not a big Bon Jovi fan either but the commercial was funny. I missed the Bud Light commercial with Peyton Manning and Post Malone. It’s set at an outdoor wedding, there’s a keg and a VERY big hill involved. I laughed out loud. As for the TPUSA, Brantley Gilbert started it off with several numbers. Lee Brice did several, there was a blonde violinist and and a long-haired dude on either the cello or viola (not sure which) who I haven’t been able to ID but they were cool. Rock only did the last number. Get a hanky for the “Last Harvest” Lays commercial–dad and daughter farmers.

  2. We actually missed the first half because the timing of it confused us and we were watching something else. We were so bored, we switched it off and didn’t care who won.

The only commercial I absolutely loved was the Budweiser one. I saw it online whenever they released it, last week I think. Hit me in all the feels. It felt like their commercials of old that we loved.

So, football is over till it’s not. On to baseball!

PITCHERS AND CATCHERS! Starts today, with teams trickling in all week. Also, college softball has started! I’m stoked!

And yeah, the timeing was weird. The game started at 5:30 CST and it didn’t get over until after 8:30. One wag stated that if someone unfamiliar with America watched, they’d think the US was all about AI, prescription medications, and gambling. That pretty much sums up all the rest of the commercials. LOL Y’all truly didn’t miss much and I’m pretty sure all the commrecials are probably up on YouTube. That’s where I caught the Bud Light commercial I missed.

I didn’t watch the game at all but had seen a few of the commercials online. The Bud commercial was my favorite followed by Will Shat https://youtu.be/b7Tb1qF6BQ8?si=pX1KXZ5EBi1VvgPM

    Have a great day!

I missed Shatner’s but caught it later. It was pretty funnyl. Loved the Clydesdales but that’s an easy pic. I want to find the whole “sequence” of the Bud Light. LG says there’s a “prequel” of Manning begging a beer before the bar opens “for the bride, she’s nervous…” 😆
