TheBossAndHisCowgirl_James

Happy Book Birthday to Clay, and Georgie!

And ME!

When the billionaire boss beckons…

Ever since she left behind her cowgirl roots to work for him, Georgie Dreyfus has had a crush on her boss, US Senator Clay Barron. So the sexy speechwriter is speechless when Clay comes to her rescue on the campaign trail…and they discover a mutual chemistry that will no longer be denied.

But when their relationship faces one of the biggest veto threats of all, Georgie goes home to Oklahoma to regroup. Now the billionaire Barron must choose: continue his quest to win the White House or win back the woman who’s laid claim to his heart…

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

This book took a strange turn as I was getting to know the characters. They both surprised me and I fell madly in love with Clay while I was cheering Georgie all the way to the end, promising her she’d get her very own Happy Ever After. Clay made me mad. And he broke my heart. Georgie made me cry. Clay and Georgie made me cry–all in a very good way!

So go read this book. If you find it out in the wild, take a picture of it and post it, tagging me so I see it. Sometimes, it takes some of the “big box” stores to get the shelves turned over. If you don’t see it today, if you happen to be out and about, it’ll be there eventually. And ladies? Take a page from Georgie’s story. Check your “girls” often and get that yearly done no matter how big a pain. I want to keep all of you around for years and years to come!

Oh, and if you haven’t preordered your copy, you can get it at AMAZON | HARLEQUIN | iTUNES/iBooks | KOBO | And mark it WANT TO READ on Goodreads!

A May Day Monday

Boss-Cowgirl wine ad PR 1K
I have a manuscript due in a week. Well…a week and a day. Normally, I’m done and working on hard edits by this time in the process. Granted this deadline had a short trigger but add that in with real life stuffs and while I’m not quite to the flailing stage, I’m close.

So…I wish I had exciting adventures to share. Nope. Nada. I worked all weekend. We did keep Stormageddon Friday night while Baseball Boy’s team played in a tournament. I suppose that was an adventure in babysitting. Lawyer Guy and I were exhausted by the time The Only arrived to pick him up. At one point, I had Stormy sitting in bed with me watching baseball. He doesn’t like to go to bed and fights going to sleep. Been there, done that (why yes, he DOES take after his mother, why do you ask?) “Don’t lay down,” I told him. “There’s no sleeping in this bed during baseball.” The kid was so tired he had the stumbles but he sat there. And fell asleep. Sitting up. He fell over sideways on the bed and woke himself up before I could catch him. And then he was awake until Mom arrived. So much for reverse psychology. 😆

This was a big weekend for college baseball and softball. The REAL OSU (Oklahoma State) is in the baseball regionals. As of this typing, they’re undefeated in the winner’s bracket of the Clemson regional. OU is undefeated in their bracket of the Women’s College World Series. So yay! Lots of sports playing in the background as I pound out the words. EDIT FOR UPDATE: OSU moves on to Super Regionals! YAY! OU moves on to the WCWS FINALS! YAYAY!

Oh, have I mentioned that I have a book releasing tomorrow? THE BOSS AND HIS COWGIRL was a very emotional “write” for me. Once you read it, I think you’ll figure out why. Clay and Georgie are prefect for each other and it all comes down to “What will a man do for the woman he loves?” It will be available in bookstores where romance is sold and at the big box stores like Walmart and Target. It’s supposed to populate the shelves Tuesday but I’ve learned sometimes the stockers take their own sweet time. I’ll be haunting my local stores. Well, in between mad bouts of writing. I know. I live such an exciting life, right?

So what exciting things did y’all do this weekend? I want to live vicariously through you!

Friday Sinema: I Said I Do

THE BOSS AND HIS COWGIRL goes live on Tuesday, June 7th.

When the billioniare boss beckons…
Ever since she left behind her cowgirl roots to work for him, Georgie Dreyfus has had a crush on her boss, US Senator Clay Barron. So the sexy speechwriter is speechless when Clay comes to her rescue on the campaign trail and they discover a mutual chemistry that will no longer be denied.

But when their relationship faces one of the biggest veto threats of all, Georgie goes home to Oklahoma to regroup. Now the billionaire Barron must choose: continue his quest to win the White House or win back the woman who’s laid claim to his heart…

There’s a scene in the book where Clay and Georgie, the hero and heroine, dance to this song. I figured it was a nice way to spend a couple of minutes today. Enjoy and have an awesome weekend! I’ll be working to give Clay’s younger brother, Cash, his own HEA. 🙂

Thursday Thoughts – Late Again

coffee lifeNot in my world. Just sayin’…

So, no wisdom from the Universe today. See, yesterday’s #1lineWed theme–LATE–really hits home. I feel like I’m running perpetually behind–a day late and a dollar short. I was never one who was early to bed and early to rise–unless forced to…like with deadlines, but then I’m late to bed and early to rise. Nice to know I have something in common with the awesome Joss Whedon. 😆

I always was an early-morning or late-night writer. Early morning was my favorite; late night was because you had a deadline. And at four in the morning, you make up some of your most absurd jokes. ~Joss Whedon

Because that’s where I am at the moment. I haven’t hit panic mode but I feel like I’m half a step off the pace. I have new books out–the box set and NIGHT MOVES. THE BOSS AND HIS COWGIRL releases on Tuesday and I’m not ready for it either. I’m facing the hard deadline on RDR#5 and lagging behind, though I did make up some big numbers over the weekend despite everything. That’s what’s kicking my butt. I need to make updates to this site, catch up on FB, Twitter…Instagram. Gah! *flail*

Speaking of, I did mention a status update. 🙄 So, Saturday was the book signing down at Anadarko Public Library where, I add with a big golly gee, I’m the featured author for June! I sold two book, the whole family made the road trip, and we stood in line for over an hour to have Meers burgers and homemade ice cream on pecan cobbler at the Meers Store. Trust me, both are worth standing in line that long for. The “fun” started on the way home. The Only got sick. I mean you DO NOT want me to describe how sick she was. We were about 15 minutes from the house. She had a plastic bag but it had a hole in it. So…anyway. We got home, got her clothes off and she got in the shower to clean off. Clothes went into the washer, and I spent thirty minutes cleaning the back seat of Drover. (Drover would be my Highlander.) Only crawled into my bed to wait on her clothes. We ended up sending Baseball Boy and Stormageddon home. I took Only home around 9:30. Wasn’t sure she wasn’t going to end up staying the night. Anyway, we think it was food poisoning from their dinner Friday night.

So, no writing on Saturday, which put me behinderer. And yes, that’s a word because I say it is! 😉 Sunday, I made up for lost time. Sort of. The same for Monday. I was back on my word count pace to finish before deadline so I’d have time to edit. Then I realized that Cash, the hero who has done awful things to his brother’s wives in previous books, wasn’t going to be redeemed on the track I was going. Tuesday was a lost cause as I puzzled through the situation. Yesterday? Yesterday I figured it out. I figured out WHY Cash did the things he did and I figured out how he could redeem himself in the eyes of his brothers. Maybe. So, today? Hopefully many more words. My word count over there on the right is steadily growing. And Cash is breaking my heart in the process. No. Really. He made me cry yesterday and it wasn’t from pulling my hair out. 🙂

I’m still late, but getting there. So…double duty. Some musing, a little inspiration maybe, and a follow/catch up post. Back to work. I can’t wait to see if Cash is going to break my heart again today. How ’bout y’all? Running late or right on time?

Wednesday Words – Late

wurkn-on-mai-plan-for-word-domination-caleb-pupIf there was ever a more appropriate theme for today’s #1lineWed, I don’t know what it would be. The White Rabbit is my new BFF and I’m going to steal his pocket watch one of these days soon. That said, I did get almost 10K words written this past week. I’ll use tomorrow to catch folks up. Today, it’s about being late. I only have one place in the current WIP where that word is used, and it’s a “throwaway line” but it’s one of the opening scenes so I’ll share a snippet. Quick background: Cash and Chase Barron are twins. Chase found his true love in CONVENIENT COWGIRL BRIDE (October 2016) and he runs the entertainment division of Barron Enterprises–mainly the hotels and casinos. Cash is the black sheep (and man is it a trial to get him redeemed! 😆 ) and he’s in charge of the security division. There’s something hinky going on at the Crown Barron Casino and Hotel in Las Vegas. Cash and his people are there to find out what’s going on. So…
***
Cash rubbed his eyes, a dull headache throbbing at the base of his skull from staring at the bank of security monitors. Tucker handed him a cup coffee and a bottle of painkillers. He tossed back a couple of the pills and chased them with the hot, black liquid.

“When did you tumble to their presence?” Cash asked not taking his eyes from the live footage.

“Yesterday when they checked in. That new facial recognition software you had installed worked like a charm. I have the footage if you want to look at it.” Tucker watched the monitors too.

“Just give me the rundown.”

“Max arrived first. Had reservations for a mini-suite under the name Grant Franklin.”

Cash scrubbed at his forehead with the heel of one hand. “And his sons?”

“Alexander and Ajax checked in together. Another mini-suite. Hamilton and Jackson Grant.”

“Please tell me you’re joking.”

“No. They’re all here.” Tuck’s voice hardened.

“Great. Go on.”

“Braxton checked in about an hour later. Lincoln Washington. And then Dexter checked in this afternoon. Reservations were for Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Cleveland.”

Cash sat up straight, whipping around to stare at the other man. “Hamilton, Jackson, Grant, Lincoln, Washington, Franklin, and Cleveland. Now they’re just trying to rub our noses in it.” His cousin looked confused so he laid it out. “Those are presidential last names. All of them. Except Franklin. But ol’ Ben’s still on the hundred dollar bill.”

“It’s all about the money.”

“Yeah. Wait. Dexter brought a woman?” Cash pushed out of the chair. “Do you have a picture of her?”

“No. He checked in alone, was up in his room about forty-five minutes, and then left in a cab he caught at the front entrance. He hasn’t been back.”

“You sure of that?” Cash walked to a monitor and tapped it. “That’s Dexter at the roulette table.”

“How the hell—”

Bridger walked up to them and cut his brother off. “We have a gap in the security cameras somewhere. We’ll find it, Tuck. Sorry I’m late for the party, Cash. I was double checking footage.”

“I want eyes on all of the Rowlands. Max is at the high stakes black jack table. Alex walked out about five minutes ago after Dexter tossed him a high-sign. Ajax and Braxton are roaming around on the slot machine floor.” Cash returned to his chair and swiveled it around. “I want our guys on them, Bridger.” He held up a hand to stop Tucker’s rebuttal. “Your security is good. Hell, we hired and trained them, but they look like casino security. My guys won’t.”

Bridger offered a feral grin to Tucker. “Little brother, you pick my guys out, I’ll buy you the biggest steak they have at the Barron House.”

The radio at Cash’s elbow hissed. “I have Target Two in sight. He’s with a woman. Redhead. Black dress. Lobby entrance.”

And you know what they say about redheads, right? 😉 Cash is gonna find out!

SHIRTS OFF SATURDAY and NEW BOOK

Night Moves final 680NIGHT MOVES IS LIVE. Go forth and read free if you have Kindle Unlimited, or add it to your keeper shelf for $2.99. HERE’S THE LINK!

And here’s the blurb:
Everybody knows you don’t mess with a big, bad Wolf. Well, everyone except Lainey Walker…

Hooray for Hollywood…

Eric “Hollywood” Hilton is no hero, he’s a Nightrider first, last, and always. There isn’t anything he won’t do for the club. With his looks, women are a dime a dozen until he walks into Chasin’ Tail, the strip club owned by the MC, and sees the “new girl.” She trips his moonstruck wolf straight into that crazy thing called love.

Run don’t walk…

Lainey’s goal is to pay off her family’s debts and return to college. Without much choice in jobs, she takes a spot dancing at Chasin’ Tail. Fortunately, it brings in the big bucks to make the deadline. The last thing she expects is to wind up in the middle of a biker showdown, much less get accused of being on the wrong side.

When it looks like Lainey has betrayed the Nightriders, Hollywood must choose his brothers or his mate. She won’t tell him everything, but his wolf can’t let her go. Can he find the truth of her innocence in time to save her?

Warning: Lots of down and dirty sex, extreme violence of the blood and guts kind, alpha MC members, and a moonstruck Wolf with stars in his eyes. This is the dark side of the Moonstruck world where sex is rough, death is brutal, and laws don’t mean jack.

Hollywood-Night MovesAnd here’s Hollywood to say, “You know you want this book!”

Thursday Thoughts – Universal Priorties

universePriorties. I need them. I feel like that proverbial chicken flopping around with no head. Sometimes I get impulsive and say yes to things that I should have considered more calmly as it related to the whole scheme of things. Deadlines. Distractions. AADD*. This message from the Universe popped up in my inbox yesterday. Perfect timing?

Actually, Silver, when you think about it, everything boils down to priorities. Everything.

And that’s a lot.

Tallyho,
The Universe

And too often, Silver, it’s the priority of “being right,” that wins out over all the others.

I don’t care about being right. I care about the promises I made to readers and editors. I have a new release out, part of a box set that includes NIGHT SHIFT (Nightriders MC #1) and the previously unpublished REMEMBER THE NIGHT, a Nightriders MC novella. I have NIGHT MOVES (Nightriders MC #2) almost ready to upload but no time to properly market it. 😦 Still, I’ll get that done before my projected June 1st release date. I have a hard deadline of June 14th for the next Red Dirt manuscript. I’m about 13K words into. I need 2K words a day to stay on track. I have a book signing on Saturday that will take me away from the computer all day so I need to add those words in to another day(s). Did I mention I need to advertise and market? And family obligations. Wheeee!

Yeah, feeling a little overwhelmed. So…this message? Yeah, I made decisions that just added to the stress but once I get my priorities straight, everything will be all right, which is better than “being right.” Right?

Wednesday Words: Anger

wurkn-on-mai-plan-for-word-domination-caleb-pupI wasn’t going to post today. I’ve got so much going on and the Toaster Box (my computer) is giving me fits. I fear a new computer is in the cards. 😦 But then I realized today’s #1lineWed theme is perfect to introduce REMEMBER THE NIGHT (A Nightriders MC Novella), because in the opening? Yeah, Lucky Malone, the hero, is just a little upset with the situation. Not to mention that the woman standing there is one he’s never forgotten…

Here’s the cover and the opening scene:

Remember the Night 680Lucky
Watching her stand there shaking with cold and shock while a callous cop asked questions pissed me right the hell off. She’d sacrificed her wool muffler as a tourniquet on Tag’s leg and her coat to keep him warm. A firefighter poured bottled water over her bloody hands as she struggled through her answers.

“He—the motorcyclist I mean, was in the southbound left turn lane, a few cars back. The arrow changed to green and everybody in the turn lanes moved. He’d cleared the intersection when the light turned green. I was going north and started forward but this black SUV came from the west and cut me off.” Her eyes slid over to the rust-red stain where Tag had almost lost his leg and sniffled. “It hit him. Deliberately.”

The firefighter pressed a wad of paper towels in her hands and walked away. Fuck. Her lips were as blue as my balls. Gemma West. I’d walked away from her ten years ago when she’d been a scrawny sixteen-year-old. She damn sure wasn’t a kid anymore.

“Deliberately? How do you know their intent?”

Gemma huffed out a breath and started to wrap her arms around her chest. She stopped when she realized her shirt was bloody. “Because after they ran the red light, they pulled up next to him. He was in the left lane, they were in the right. The SUV swerved right into him.”

“Why were you paying such close attention?”

Her expression went all What the hell? as she answered. “Because I laid down skid marks to keep from hitting them and while I was stopped, I turned to watch as I was reaching for my phone to call 911.”

Dancer Calhoun, vice president of the Oklahoma Chapter of the Nightriders MC and one of my best friends, stood beside me, also listening to the cop’s interrogation. We’re Wolves—shape shifters—and even in human form, our hearing’s preternatural. Without considering the consequences, I shrugged out of my leather jacket. I ignored the cop’s sneer as I walked up behind Gemma and dropped the coat over her shoulders.

Back of the Book Blurb:
Everybody knows you don’t mess with a big, bad Wolf. Well, everyone except Gemma West…

If a Wolf plays his cards right, he might get lucky in love…
Ten years ago, Lucas “Lucky” Malone ran from charges of murder, leaving behind the girl destined to be his mate. Now he makes his own odds as president of the Oklahoma Chapter of the Nightriders.

When a girl’s luck runs out…
Bad luck follows Gemma West like a black cloud. She just wants to go home but when she witnesses a horrific car crash, she can’t turn her back. Coming face-to-face with the only man she’s ever loved might be the worst luck of all.

An accident brought them together, but an MC war is brewing and the last thing Lucky needs is to take a gamble on the one woman guaranteed to make him howl at the moon. How can this moonstruck Wolf walk away from her a second time?

Warning: Down and dirty sex, extreme violence of the blood and guts kind, alpha MC members, and a moonstruck Wolf looking to win it all. This is the dark side of the Moonstruck world where sex is rough, death is brutal, and laws don’t mean jack.

Wednesday Words: #1lineWed Hooks

wurkn-on-mai-plan-for-word-domination-caleb-pupLast week’s #1lineWed was opening lines. Today’s is ending hooks. Here’s some chapter ends from REMEMBER THE NIGHT, a bonus Nightrider novella that will be included in a boxed set: Hotshot Danger: Packing the Heat, to be released in June. So…lets hook up!

****
Moments later, after a last look at Gemma, I roared after the ambulance, my dick and wolf both pissed at me.
That’s what I’d do. I’d go to the hospital. Find out how the injured guy was doing. Give the jacket back. And run.
Lucas Malone. The man who broke my heart. The man I’d tried for ten years to hate. And the only man I’d ever love.
Having Gemma here, touching her, made it all tolerable.
I needed a few minutes to myself.
He was a brother. He had my back.
“Get on the back of my bike, babe. We have places to go.”
I couldn’t think about what I’d do if she tried to walk away.
“Suit yourself. There’ll be blood on my hands when I come to you.”
I felt only an odd sense of peace, like I’d finally found my way home.
***

And no, that’s not the last line! I’m not about to reveal that because I’m all about the teasing. What sort of hooks do you want to tease us with?

And speaking of teases, for those of you not on FB or Twitter, I’m a double finalist in the National Readers Choice Awards! THE DEVIL’S CUT is a finalist in the Paranormal Romance category and NIGHT SHIFT finaled in the Erotic Romance category. So…YAY! 😀
