Tuesday Temptation: Coffee

Haven’t done one of these in a long time, so just for fun, here are some coffee quotes and facts and memes from my coffee collection to illustrate them.
Coffee understands
Coffee is a blessing and a gift. A well-made cup gets close to heaven. ~The Joy of Coffee by Corby Kummer

Yes, yes it does. There are mornings I can see wings on my coffee mug.

After a hard workout, a cup or two of coffee has been shown to reduce muscle soreness (in women, anyway( more effectively than naproxen, aspirin, and ibuprofen. You know what that means, right? Jog to the coffee pot! 😉

Coffee levels Good communications is as stimulating as black coffee, and just as hard to sleep after. ~Anne Morrow Lindbergh

I’d add reading a good book to that list. Just sayin’…

Me? I think it would be better if the guy wore coffee cologne. Yeah, I’d be all over that! 😈

So that’s my Tuesday Ode to Coffee. Back to work…right after I pour another cup of coffee! 😀

First Monday in May

loldog Monday Pup2There’s nothing special about this day. But I have lots of randomness to share. First, I had a really laid back–mostly–weekend. Ended up going with Lawyer Guy for his HAM radio club siren test (first Saturday of each month to test the storm sirens in Edmond), so we could meet Only and Stormageddon for lunch. Mexican food. YUM! After lunch, Storm and I headed to his momma and daddy’s house to play with Dozer, the Dog of Doom, and watch baseball while Only and LG headed out to some big antique flea market thingy, with a side dish of neighborhood garage sales. Mainly, she wanted some adult time and she and her dad have fun together.

Sunday, I got the .pdf review copy of NIGHT SHIFT formatted. It’ll be ready for the print version soon, too. I’ll keep y’all posted.

I’m “appearing” a few places this week. Today, NIGHT SHIFT and a few of my other books are being featured on Siobhan Muir’s BOOK GRATITUDE BLOG as Author of the Week. Click the link and go see the answer to my interview question.

Tomorrow, I’ll be on the Smart Bitches blog with a HABO (Help a Bitch Out). I’m looking for a book and hoping the bitchery can help me remember/find the title. The link to the site is over there on the right, in my Place We Go links.

Saturday, I’ll be appearing in person for a book signing at the Addie Long Community Library in Mountain View, Oklahoma. On the way home, we’re going to stop for burgers at Meers, Oklahoma before we meander through the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge so Only can photograph the scenery and wildlife.

In other news, THE COWGIRL’S LITTLE SECRET is on a special 50% off sale at the Harlequin website until May 10th. If you haven’t bought your copy (I mean, seriously?) or you know someone who would enjoy the book, you can share this coupon code: MYRD3. Just click on the code to go to the buy page at Harlequin!

Reading: Started a new/old series. New to me but has been out awhile. It’s the Dragonkind series by Coreene Callahan. Dragon shifters–good guys vs. rogues, and the women meant to mate them. It’s been fun so far. First book in the series is FURY OF FIRE. I’m currently reading #2, FURY OF ICE.

Didn’t get much writing done on DOUBLE CROSS but I have hopes for lots of words spewing forth this week. I’m shooting for a July 1, 2015 release date. I’m also toying with the idea of doing a pre-order for it. What about y’all? What kept you occupied this weekend?

Friday Sinema – Beltane Fires

It’s May Day. And Beltane, which is a Celtic celebration that played a big part in FAERIE FATE, in case y’all want to go back and reread it. I spent a lot of time listening to Loreena McKinnett, Enya, and other Celtic artists. At Beltane, the Celts would sweep out all the fireplaces and lay new wood. It was a time to celebrate the end of winter and the coming of summer, a time when shepherds moved their herds to greener grass to graze. On Beltane, two bonfires would be lit, words said by the Druid priest and then all the animals would be driven between the fires to guard them against pestilence and predators. Then the people would dance between and around the fires, for the same reasons, and to help promote fertility. At the end of the evening, when the fires burned low, the people would light torches and return to their homes to light the home fires from the Beltane fires. For luck.

So for your enjoyment, Loreena McKinnett’s “Huron Beltane Fires.” Happy Beltane.

May your home fires always burn bright.

Thurday Thoughts: Universal Trail

universeLast week, I talked about forks in the road. This week, I’m looking over my shoulder at my back trail. Strangely enough, so is the Universe. 😉

After reading this bit of insight from the Universe, I look back over my route to publishing. I remember submitting to a small press to print a dictionary of military terms for family members. I made 10¢ a copy and it was really fun to walk into a gift shop on an Army post and see it for sale. I remember my first submission to Harlequin and my first rejection from them. 😆 In a weird way, the rejection was a compliment: my writing was too sophisticated for their readers. Taking a different tack, with a different book, I went to Gold Eagle (which was a subsidiary of Harlequin, surprisingly enough) with the first book in a series about a team of women, formerly in the military and now working for a Washington “think tank” in testing R&D. They loved it but didn’t think women were into action adventure and figured selling female protagonists to men would be an uphill battle. Then life intervened and my career took a different direction. I won’t got through the whole, long story but it involves the Smart Bitches blog, the Brenda Novak Auction for Juvenile Diabetes, and a visit with Patience Smith of Harlequin Intrigue. Those events put me back on the trail to seeking publication and now, ten years later, here I am. So…

Sometimes, Silver, when you look back at the trail you’ve tread, it’s actually hard to believe you were as scared or confused or uncertain as you were, yet still you rocked it.

I say, remember that next time you feel scared, confused, or uncertain.

You’re on fire,
~The Universe

Works the same for running out of chocolate, Silver.

I was certainly all of those things. Not sure I rocked it, but that’s my own little demon sitting on my shoulder whispering. As for running out of chocolate? Iffy would never speak to me again. 😆 What about the rest of you? What’s on your back trail that you look back and realize you’ve overcome? Yeah, yeah. That’s a “d’uh” question for some of you but all the guides on social media say I need to ask a question to get people to respond with a comment to my post. eye roll

Wednesday Words: Pages and Hard Target

wurkn-on-mai-plan-for-word-domination-caleb-pupToday’s #1lineWed is all about the page number. The lines are to come from page 15, 55, or 155 of an unpublished work in progress. That would be DOUBLE CROSS, the first book in the Hard Target series. However, as another contributor pointed out in the Twitter stream, when using Scrivener, there are no page numbers. Hrmmmm. So…here’s some random lines, surrounded by their companion snippets. 😆 Oh, I’ve highlighted the line I’ll be using on Twitter.

Duke, Master Chief Petty Officer and SEAL Team Atlantis’s sniper, is in position waiting to get a shot at their target. There’s a rumor that the war lord has a western doctor as a hostage. Yeah…about that…

This was Duke’s first chance to get a better count of how many occupied the tiny village. Most of the huts had burned and the place looked deserted so he figured the odds of civilians, besides the doctor, were slim. The boy reappeared, threatening the next person ducking through the narrow doorway with his weapon—the good doctor herself. She looked like hell and carried a medical kit. Rust-colored splotches stained her shirt. Hers or someone else’s? Duke couldn’t tell.

Needless to say, Duke and Dr. Coreen “Cory” Prince needed to get together so she was rescued. Now they’re being pursued by the bad guys.

The doctor was having a nightmare. Duke knew all about those, though he reserved his for down time. He didn’t sleep much on missions. He couldn’t take the chance of alerting the enemy if he talked in his sleep. Or screamed. Like Coreen. Cory. She’d asked him to call her Cory. But in his mind, he called her Princess. Little rich girl who wanted to save the world.

And since she might alert the enemy, this is Duke’s solution to the problem, because how else would a SEAL control a pretty doctor…

Duke needed to control her, calm her down. For the good of the mission, he gathered her into his arms and he settled her into the nest formed by his crossed legs as he sat Indian style. Her hands balled into fists but instead of beating at his chest, she clutched his tee shirt. His dick went on alert, liking the way her rounded ass fit against it. Liked it too much, in fact.

In the distance, men called to each other. Torches and flashlights probed the darkness. He and the doctor were hunted. It was now mission imperative to keep her quiet. Duke did the only thing that made sense to him at the time. He covered her mouth with his own.

Because, of course, that’s how you silence someone when being chased by the bad guys… 😉

Back to work for me. Do y’all have any words to spare? Put ’em in the comments. Happy Hump Day!

Tuesday–Day of Forgetfulness

Night Shift front coverUhm…I totally forgot to set up a blog for today. I was finishing a beta read of Siobhan Muir’s newest sexy paranormal about THE vampire and a dragon shifter. Pretty dang hot! Anyway, I was so caught up in it, I totally blanked out that I hadn’t figured out something to talk about today. So…I’m late, this is mostly lame–except for talking about Siobhan’s new story and THIS! *points to link below*

BLOGGING BY LIZA

Most of you probably know, but in case you don’t, Liza is a blogger and book reviewer. I’m EXTREMELY lucky that she loves me and my books! She was on the ball and asked for a sexy excerpt and info on NIGHT SHIFT. It’s on her blog today. Go forth and read the hawt sexiness that is the excerpt. And follow Liza’s blog to stay on top of all the good books coming out! She is one of the single-most dangerous threats to my book budget. Just sayin’!!!!

In other news, I’ve figured out Hardy’s story. That gives me three more Nightrider books in the future and I’m getting a handle on Hollywood’s story. I already have several of the Hard Target books figured out so don’t worry! I’m back to work on Duke’s story today after some errands–library, bank, groceries, Starbucks… 😉 Duke has decided to suck it up and face the bad times so he can get to his HEA.

Chilly and rainy today–a high of 64. At the end of April. My electric bill is happy. Tomorrow’s #1lineWed is based on page numbers. It’ll be fun. No really! shiftyeyes

Okay, off to get stuffs done. Watch the word counter over there for DOUBLE CROSS. Hopefully, Duke and Cory will stay within their word count restrictions. Easy and Sam sure didn’t! Have a great Tuesday. Go read the excerpt and then tell me what you think!

Monday Moods

Release Day FearPanic. That’s the mood at the moment. And that over there? That meme? Yeah, That’s exactly how I feel with every new release but especially with this one. The Nightriders is such a departure for me–first person POV, dark and dirty, gritty, violent. Don’t get me wrong. The F-bomb and I are BFFs so it isn’t that. It’s the other stuff–the violence, the sexxor-sexy times. We’ll see if my readers go for it. We’ll see if it picks up a wider audience. I shouldn’t worry about it but this? Yeah, I’m worried and I’m not really sure why. So, here’s the hard sell: GO BUY MY BOOK! ‘Cause I don’t want to live in a van down by the river! That would be like living a Rob Lowe Direct TV commercial. I just like my comfy house. Here’s the AMAZON LINK, plus go mark it WANT TO READ on Goodreads so it shows up in your timeline and people will see it. *nods*

Anyway, on to the next project, DOUBLE CROSS in the Hard Target series. This is Master Chief Duke Reagan’s story. He’s not very happy with me–not because I put him on hold to write NIGHT SHIFT, but because he doesn’t like the opening of his story. He’s a SEAL team leader. He HATES the beginning. But sometimes, you have to deal with the pain before you get to the HEA. Right? I’ve also got THE DEVIL’S CUT on tap, too. As things hit me, I’m working it it sort of simultaneously. The Penumbra peeps are jabbering and I’d be foolish not to listen.

In other writing news, THE COWGIRL’S LITTLE SECRET garnered a 4 star (out of 4.5) review from RT Book Reviews Magazine.

The weekend was fun. We had Stormageddon (Sprout’s new moniker) for six hours. There’s video on my FB page–the personal, not the author. There are new NIGHT SHIFT memes on my FB author page. Go check them out. I’ll be adding one a day all this week. Anyway, we gave him a metal coffee can, a plastic container, and a wooden spoon to play with. Forget that big tub of toys. He had a ball banging away. Yes, he’s a cutie pie. Yes, I love him to pieces. Yes, I’m glad I can send him home with Only! 😆

Sunday, I played graphic artist and made up the memes I’m sharing on FB. I’m also considering adding a meme page here. What do y’all think? Would you go check out the memes I’ve made for my books if I had a dedicated page? Probably under [Stuff and Nonsense] – which never gets updated. 🙄 I also watched Cardinals baseball, checked out “Messengers” on the CW–I’d taped the episodes. Interesting. Angelic messengers, Satan, and good vs. evil. Unusual cast of characters. I’ll stick with it awhile. I also need to catch up with the DVR’d episodes of the series, “Dig.” It’s about an archaeological dig in Israel. It looked intriguing but I haven’t taken time to watch it. I’ll do a marathon at some point. 😆

Reading–still doing the RITA thing. Dang. It’s going to be hard to judge this category. Every book I’ve read so far should be a finalist and I have to rank them. Argh! In between, I’m catching up on some paranormal reading. Nothing that really stands out–good or bad. Mostly entertaining but nothing I’d recommend highly.

So, plans for this week. Writing. Staying current with social media. Writing. Laundry. Writing. Did I mention I have a lot of writing to do? 😆 My life is so predictable and boring. What about y’all? Fun weekend? Good TV or movies? Good books? Good writing? Distract me! Because…who wants to think about a team of sexy Navy SEALs?

Friday Sinema – Just Gettin’ Started

Happy Friday! Every time I hear this song, I think of Easy and Sam. Doesn’t matter if they’re in the Hummer on their road trip to hell, or they’re on his Harley. This song just sings of their sexy times. 😉 I’m going to grab another cup of coffee, sit back, and enjoy!

Have a great weekend. I’m doing the Jammie thing tomorrow. Sprout–or as his parents’ call him, Stormaggedon–is coming to play for the afternoon. Fun times! What’re your plans?

Thursday Thoughts – Universal Forks

universeWhen I read this nudge from the Universe, I thought of Yogi Beara, the great Yankees catcher known for his malaprops, especially when he said, “When you come to a fork in the road, take it.” That always made sense to me. And in some ways, I think the big U agrees with Yogi.

For every fork in the road, Silver, there are often two paths from which to choose: the one you “should” take and the one you want to take.

Take the second. Always take the second.

I did,
~The Universe

Man, Silver, could life rock any more than it does?

Yeah, this is a whole lot better than sticking a fork in it because it’s done, right? 😆 Life rocks pretty good right now. How ’bout y’all? Which way do you go when you come to a fork in the road?

Wednesday Words: Questions

wurkn-on-mai-plan-for-word-domination-caleb-pupI love today’s theme for #1lineWed. It’s all about the questions and reminds me of my high school journalism days when we had to cover the “What, Where, When, Who, and How?” of a story. All of these snippets are in Easy’s POV.

He’s shown up on a woman’s front porch. A former nurse, she’s prepared to get the bullet out and sew him up.

“This is going to hurt.”

“It already fuckin’ hurts, babe.”

She pressed her lips together and *tsked*. She fucking *tsked*. Who does that besides an old maid school teacher?

Easy’s made it back to the Nightrider clubhouse, ready to face the music.

[Digger] glanced at me.

“We’ve been on lock down since you disappeared.”

I scrubbed at my jaw. Time was still sort of relative. “How long have I been gone?”

“Six days.”

“Fuck.”

“Yup. ‘Bout sums it up.”

Lots of questions in this slightly NSFW scene. At least Easy is honest. 😉

“What’s your name?”

Her eyes narrowed and her nose did this little twitchy thing as she pressed her lips together. My dick liked that a lot. It was makin’ plans to get between those lips with that cute little nose buried in my groin while I came in her mouth.

“Y’all don’t need to know.”

“Yeah, babe, we do. You want to see the kids, we need to know your name.”

Her nose squiggled again. “Fine. I’m Sam Prescott.”

“Sam?”

“Short for Samantha, okay?” She thrust her chin at me. “Did you murder Sarah?”

Why did she automatically assume Pretty was dead, much less murdered? Jonah had just told her Pretty—Sarah—was gone and to come. Still, she was gutsy to ask that question. I answered honestly. “No.”

“The only way she’d leave the kids is if she’s dead. If you didn’t kill her, who did?”

Who has questions? To ask, share, or answer?!? 😉
