Storm Warning and Weekend Update

full moon - tressebleue (bluebraid)Morning Update: ROGUE MOON IS LIVE. Click and see. πŸ™‚

The roof is almost done, which is a very GOOD thing since the weather last night (when I was typing this) said we’d be having storms during morning drive time. There are two sections of the roof over the garage still to be stripped of two layers of shingles (one wood, one composite) and some rafters suffering from wood rot have to be replaced. The house, though, should be leak free!

I had an amazing time at the mini-conference this weekend. Heidi, my CP, and I shared a room at the Norman Embassy Suites hotel. VERY nice room. We had a pot-luck meet-and-greet at an OKRWA’s member’s house Friday night. Our guest speaker was having fun with the situation–one guy, ten women. His odds were even better on Saturday. There were 24 of us for the all-day seminar. πŸ˜‰

William Bernhardt is a NYT best-selling author with his Ben Kincaid Series. He also knows a heckava lot about writing and teaches university classes and seminars through the Red Sneaker Writers Center. He currently has two books on writing–Story Structure and Building Characters–available and I STRONGLY recommend them. His third craft book on plotting will be out in the next month or so. I’ll definitely be adding it to my professional collection. I have pages of notes. So much of what he said resonated and put to rest some fears I’d been having about WITCH and ROGUE MOON. I’ll be sharing a few of his insights later in the week in a craft post.

As part of the class, Bill critiqued five pages each of us sent to him. He didn’t have much to say about the first five of WITCH. I’m changing a victim’s name. I’m reworking an awkwardly phrased sentence, and figuring out a way to show how much time has passed between one scene and the next. Bottom line, he enjoyed it, really liked my world-building, and asked if I would email him when WITCH releases because he’d like to read it and write me a review. How freaking awesome is that?!? I know! Right?!?

Other news. Do you like my full moon .gif? That’s to celebrate the release of ROGUE MOON. It should be live before noon today. As of last night (again, when typing and posting), it wasn’t live yet. As soon as I have a link, I’ll be all over it. πŸ˜€

Poor Lawyer Guy worked all weekend. We’re going to celebrate Father’s Day next weekend with the kids. Things won’t be so hectic. (Nothing like being awake at 6:30 because the roofers are expected at 7:00. *yawn*

Tomorrow, I’m guest blogging over at Murder She Writes. I’ll have all the info on tomorrow’s blog plus more stuff about ROGUE. Until then, what the heck did y’all do this weekend?

  1. Yay for getting the roof done. I just looked at the radar and the big yellow splotch is all over OK this morning headed our way. I hope the roof was done in time to keep your stuff dry through this. That’s totally awesome about WITCH. Not surprising he loved it. You rock. Poor Lawyer Guy, though. I hope he has an awesome shifted Fathers’ Day. And I can’t wait until tomorrow to read your MSW post. Too cool.

This weekend, I started building a new garden bed next to the paved part of the driveway. Tore out the rickety wood stairs (which really only served as a potential copperhead habitat) and dug up about 3×5 feet of weedy yard. Then I start gathering rocks to lay as a new base. Our yard is full of rocks, so I’m transplanting them from everywhere to right there. I also wrote about 4K words, read part of an awful book, and read some really good stuff to get the taste out of my brain. Sent a few queries. Oh, and watched golf. Today, I clean! (Or not, depending on whether I feel like writing instead.)

We had a huge t-storm rumble through about 4 a.m. Some of the suppllies left on the roof are now in the yard but they’d sealed up everything and there were no leaks anywhere where the new roof is! I was so tired I didn’t even get up to go check until this morning. We had buckets and towels down from before so I figured it wasn’t worth waking up totally. πŸ˜†

Yeah, no wood piles and cool, dark places. Copperheads like to congregate there. I love the idea of transplanting rocks! πŸ˜€

I cleaned some this weekend. Haven’t been home the last 2 weekends, and my home looks like it. Still have more to do next weekend, but got started. Also read a couple of new books. Love when I can spend part of my weekend lost in books. πŸ™‚ Will start stalking Amazon at lunch.

It was a great weekend! Now I’m ready to get back to Penumbra…even though there are a couple of Moonstruck stories that Iffy grabbed onto. We’ll see. πŸ™„

WOW Silver, that is amazing news !!! Both the roof and the fact that Bill wants to read your finished story !!! I can’t imagine how wonderful that must have felt – heck, I’m got a smile plastered on my face FOR you πŸ˜€
