One of my dad’s favorite sayings was: Hindsight is 20-20
Yeah, about that…pretty true in practice. We all have something we look back at and wish we’d done differently, and wonder what would have happened if we had. The “if I turned left instead of right” game can drive a person crazy. I should know. Getting sucked into it quite often stalls my writing–the career a bit more than in an actual WIP. That said, it can stall out my WIP if I start questioning things too early in the process. Here’s the Universe’s view on it:
Sometimes the thing that didn’t work out for your very best, Silver, really did.
Yeah, always –
The Universe

Think about this. I’ll be listening for your rebel yells. 😉

OK, now I have the Billy Idol’s Rebel Yell earworm! That’ll be playing all day!! Good advice from The Universe again – and from your dad. Funny, my mom and dad had offered up the same sage wisdom when I was younger.
Sorry about the earworm, Janet. 😉 And yeah, parents end up being pretty smart, plus there’s a reason those old saws ring true. *nods*
Yep, my folks said ‘Hindsight is 20/20’ and I passed it along to the Kid. Cuz sage advice never goes out of style. ;o)
I too have played the game of ‘what if’ but the universe is right, some of the things that went to total crap really did turn out for the best in the end. Or as my mom is fond of saying ‘everything happens for a reason.’
And because I’m totally sleep deprived and thus quotey this morning, here’s one from ‘The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’: “Everything will be alright in the end. And if it is not alright, it is not yet the end.” ;o)
YES! Exactly to all of those. Sheesh. You explain it better sleep deprived than I do wide-awake (mostly) and fully caffeinated. 😉 LOVE that quote from “Marigold Hotel.” I haven’t seen that movie yet. I should do that! *nods*
It is an awesome movie. Dame Judy Dench is the pivotal character, but there are so many great characters and lines. If not for free pay channels and total boredom last year, I wouldn’t have tried it one afternoon while Hubs napped. Stopped, got sucked in, loved it, and made him watch it with me the next time it was on. ;o)
Well definitely check it out! It’s been on the list but I’ve been reading/writing instead of watching TV. Except for baseball. LOL
Well, naturally you’d pause for baseball. ;o)
Of course! 😉
I will second the “You gotta see it” on The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel movie. So good – and so great for a creative mind who loves to play ‘what if’!!! Watch baseball during the playoffs *ducks and runs*
LOL Silly rabbit. I can watch the movie when there aren’t any games on. 😉
