First Friday Free For All

New Year I like this image. As a writer, it speaks volumes to me. Last year is done. The holidays are over. There’s no reason not to get back to work. Except… Except it’s Friday. The last day of a traditional work week. But I’m a writer. I work odd hours. Odd days. Odd places. But I think this is a good image to start the year. I have new projects to start, new Chapter Ones to write.

A few odds and ends before I get to work.

Amazon. Amazon Author Pages, to be precise. They’ve changed. Now you can go to a favorite author’s page, click the follow button and you’ll get an email with updates every time a pre-order pops up or a new book releases. This is a HUGE boon to me. There are series I’m following but with sometimes six or more months between releases, I forget. And I’m horrible about checking my Amazon Wish List or my Goodreads Want to Read list. I spent quite awhile tracking down some favorites and clicking away. So Yay!

I totally suck at marketing and stuff like that there. But I have this whole box of paperback copies of COWGIRL’S DON’T CRY sitting in my office. The digital version went live yesterday but it’s my understanding that the paper copies won’t hit bookstores until Tuesday, Jan. 6th. I’ve given some away on Facebook. And in my newsletter. I need to give one away here. So comment. I’ll pick a random person. 😀 I’ll even sign it. 😉

Christmas cards. Oh, who am I kidding…New Year’s cards…or….Winter Wishes cards! Yes! That’s the ticket. Winter Wishes cards! Getting those out are on my list for this weekend. Yeah, yeah, I’ve been saying that since they were still Christmas cards. Sh’up!

On the writing project front, I’ve got two on the front burner. One is MOONSTRUCK: SECRETS. This is the compilation of BLOOD MOON and BAD MOON with a whole middle section added dealing with Hannah’s pregnancy, disbanding the Wolves, and her return to work in the Defense Security Service. The other is a short story (7K words max) that I plan to submit for an anthology. We’ll see what happens. It’s set in the Nightrider world, so even if it’s turned down, it has a home–and could be expanded for a full release. I really like the characters and the premise–second chances. That’s one of my favorite tropes in romance.

Sunday, I’m doing a guest post at the Pink Hearts Society blog, talking about how I came to write COWGIRLS. I’ll pop in here over the weekend with the link once I have it.

That’s it for me. TGIF! Have a great weekend and I’ll see y’all around the intrawebz. 😉

This is how I roll: New Year…New Chapter! What’s the title of your Chapter One?

  1. OMG, I can’t believe your first Harlequin is almost on the shelves. How cool is that? It feels like just yesterday you announced the deal. =o)

I really REALLY need to get back to work. I now only have two weeks to get WT through this edit (ostensibly so I can have it done before I get the edits back from Ms. Awesome Editor on DE.) I really need to kick myself in the sweatpants. So, I’m telling myself ‘no more genealogy stuff until after I get my chapters done each day’.

Don’t forget to pimp your overseas release, too. In fact, get me a Mills & Boon link, so I can post it to FB. My UK friends – and US friends in the UK – should know about it, too.

Don’t sweat the card sending. We’ll live. Sounds like you have enough on your plate and books to read are way more important than cards. (More words and an actual plot, doncha know.)

    2015 – Chapter One: Behind Already. ;o)

Not too worried about y’all on the card front. 😆 It’s the other, non-writing/reading people whose cards are sitting on the table. *sigh* You you got the M&B addy from FB so thanks for sharing it! And yeah…I admit to buying the four Desire titles from last month where COWGIRLS is featured in the back. I’m such a geek. I can’t wait to get “sightings” of the book in the wild. 😀

And I like your title. 😀

  2. Your right the picture does speak volumes!
Today is my last official day of workweekvacay, back to day job on Monday (but will worry about that Sunday evening) its still my time *nods*
I am excited about your HQ going live in brick and mortar stores, will look for it when I got to walmart and buy it,( I have it on the tablet but I sometimes just like to pick up a really book)-I was never a big HQ reader, but there romantic suspense, military and even some comtempory and inspirational cram my book shelves =)
*claps on wolves fill in books, can’t wait to read of Hannah’s pregancy* I remember her with Annie?
B.E. good luck with your projects we have a great mentor here *waves to Silver*
I have been working on some of my smaller ink, my story story still seems to be percolating, if that makes sense? It kinda did a 180 in the direction!
Once I get my smaller one polished up I will post on my wp blog, who probably things I forgot it!!
If the cards don’t get done, they don’t hey you could be ahead the coming holiday*ducks as box of Christmas cards flys my way*
Well heading to work on hanging pics, crosses, and the house.
    TGIF–have a good weekend!

D’aw, Kimber, made me blush and I was feeling all cool and stuff. Then I read the email from my editor and his notes on my proposal for the next book the Red Dirt series. 😆 Yeah, that grounded me and totally deflated the big head. *snerk* I have my work cut out for me but that’s okay. I love work with Mr. HQNEd!

Have a great last weekend before going back to work!

Oh, I need to go follow you on your Amazon author page then! I love all the changes being made to help authors out there – admitted there are some bad ones too…but the good ones I like 😉

I never send cards – I tried one year after I got married, thinking I’d be so grown up but …meh. Me and card sending will just go our separate ways.

I started my first bit of revision-ing yesterday – a character/motivation epiphany came to me the other day and I realize I’ve gotta make the minor tweeks now before I continue. (shrug, it’s a flaw I’ve come to accept)

    • Silver James says:

Hey, that’w how we roll, right? 😉 Yeah…I think that’s why I write in snippets. I can catch those big revelations before I have to rewrite the whole darn thing! And thanks for following my Amazon page! 🙂 Have a great weekend and happy revising!

  4. kbgardener says:

Since I didn’t get one at the party, I’ll try here… So exciting to know you have a book coming out in just a few days that I may be able to find in the book section of Walmart!

  5. Ruth Collins says:

Tell me more about the chances to win Cowgirls Don’t Cry! I love having a book whose author I actually know. I’m excited for you to have a Harlequin book come out today! I’m doing major revisions at an editor’s request. I hope I’m working for the way she is thinking.

    • Silver James says:

Yay, Ruth! Hopefully, the editor gave you some notes to follow. Crossing fingers for you. Are you coming to the next OKRWA meeting? I might just toss one into the mix for the people who are there. 😉

And I’ll have contests all month so there will be chances. 😀

Got something to say?
