The First Monday of October

loldog Monday Pup2Doesn’t the Supreme Court come back into session today? Or something. Yes, it’s Monday. Again. Why do they keep plaguing us? Of course, I worked most of the weekend so this could be Wednesday for all my brain knows. Let’s get to the roundup.

Sports: My Cards lost three games to Atlanta but they’d already clenched the division so… No baseball until next weekend when the playoffs start. Cubs and Pirates play each other for the Wild Card slot, and then they play the Cards. Not like the teams haven’t played each other all season, being in the same division and all. It’s really sad that the the three teams with the best records in ALL OF BASEBALL have to play each other. Again. Which means only one of them will move on to play for the pennant. Cards, Cubs, and Bucs all deserve to be in the playoffs. The REAL OSU won. It was a close thing but they pulled it off. The fake OSU is still number one despite almost getting beat. Again. Irritates the blazes out of me that the fake team gets all the glory when they don’t really play anyone. Whatever. OU won too, so state schools are doing good.

TV: Still enjoying “Blindspot” and “The Player” for new shows. “Code Black” was sort of “ER” on steriods. I liked it. We’ll see if it sticks. Not sure I’m going to like the direction “NCIS” is headed. Gibbs’s headspace has me worried. We’ll see…

Books: Jennifer Lyon’s re-release of BLOOD MAGIC comes out tomorrow. She’s re-edited and updated all of her Wingslayer Hunter books and releasing them this fall. Gonna be a reading marathon when I get my hands on all of them! Read DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE, the fall anthology with an IN DEATH novella. I really enjoyed this one. Sometimes, the novellas are hit and miss, as are the other novellas in the anthology. I mostly enjoyed them all this time. Also read SMALL MAGICS, an anthology of some of Iona Andrews’ novellas–some of them about Kate Daniels, some of them simply magic based. I hadn’t read a few of them and enjoyed them. Sadly, I learned that the Andrews’ won’t be releasing the second book in the Hidden Legacy series won’t be out until 2018. WTF?!?! This makes me sad because I really enjoyed the first book. Ah well. I hope I remember it when it finally comes out. Also read Katie McAllister’s DRAGON FALL. It’s short of a continuation of her Aisling Gray series. I enjoyed it but was glad I got a copy from the library.

Writing: I’m making headway on THE DEVIL’S CUT. Not as fast as I’d like but getting there. I have some publishing news and I don’t need to be a tease but I can’t really say yet, but it’s good so will be worth the wait. The second half of TDC is working out stronger than I anticipated. I’m really hoping the first half stands up to Beta/CP reads.

And that was my week/weekend in a nutshell. What about y’all? Good books read? Favorite new shows? Sports teams?

  1. Eh, if they did away with Mondays everyone would just start to hate Tuesdays. Better the devil you know, eh? Yay for your teams! That OSU game was a squeaker, but I was pulling for you. My U of M and MSU (the real ones) both won, but MSU dropped in the rankings because they played shitty. Funny how that works for some teams and not for others. :cough:ohiostate:cough: The Yankees made it into the postseason by the skin on their teeth. They look like hell, so I don’t expect they’ll make it past the wildcard game. I started reading Dark Alchemy by Laura Bickle this weekend. It’s good, but I wasn’t in a reading headspace – what with my own writing stuff going on. SQUEE for Blood Magic! You better pony-up with your news soon. I hate waiting.

I spent the weekend thinking about BloodFlow. Considering the things my editor said about the first chapter and how I’m going to approach it. I printed the 1st chapter out for Hubs and he loved it, so that wasn’t really helpful. (Felt good, but not helpful.) I watched the movie St. Vincent with Bill Murray. Really good movie, imo. Funny, touching. I laughed, I cried.

This is very true, which makes Tuesday safe. Sort of like when a bad politician picks an even worse one as a second in command. I gave up after my In Death reread binge and stuck with the safe. I started in on Ilona Andrews’ Kate Daniel series again. Won’t read all the books but know I enjoy reading them so again…safe.

Got something to say?
