Friday This-n-That

Coffee OstrichesOops. I forgot to set up a post for today. I obviously needed (and still need!) more coffee. In my defense, I was dealing with getting the newsletter out and fussing with cover issues for DOUBLE CROSS. I ended up ordering a print proof–first time ever–to look at before approving DC for sale. It’ll be a few weeks now before it’s available. In the meantime, THE DEVIL’S CUT is currently available in print from the CreateSpace eStore. It’ll be a few days before it’s available on Amazon. What’s weird? I get like 3 times the royalty if people buy it direct from CreateSpace but those sales don’t affect the sales rank on Amazon. 😛

Mr. HQEd is to get back to me next week re: RDR#4. He had some questions/notes on the proposal (first three chapters). Now I’m torn. Do I want to forge ahead and fix everything I’ve written if there are big changes, or just wait? He did mention the end-of-the-month deadline could be flexible. Not sure that bodes well. It’s NaNoWriMo so I don’t feel like I can take time off. Maybe I’ll move to a secondary project, but which to choose? The thriller an agent wants me to write so she can look at it with the idea of maybe offering representation? The next Nightrider book? Or Hard Target? It’s too late to write the Moonstruck Christmas novella this year and I might do it as a free read here on the site for next year instead of publishing it. We’ll see.

Memes. I make them for the books. I’m thinking about taking down the Heroes and Villains page and replacing it with a memes page that people could grab and use. Thoughts?

There’s a weekend coming. I should work. I may not. We’ll see when I get up in the morning. If I get up. 😉 What about y’all? Plans?

  1. I’d send you some of this chocolate cake if I could. If that don’t wake ya up, nuthin’ will. Got your newsletter and SQUEE! I love the little story surprise in there!

Wait, what? This agent wants you to write a story for her so she can maybe see if she wants to represent you?? I’d tell her to write the story herself and then you’ll see if she’s good enough to be your agent. :eyeroll: Better yet, write the story, self-publish it, and spent 15% of the profits on yourself. Bah and feh. You rock too hard to be someone else’s mule. :endrant:

With this week’s major derailment, I am so far behind on my editing, I can’t see daylight. And I still can’t find the motivation. But I’m down to the wire, so I better get my gumption hump in gear. Disappointing readers is not an option. Thus, I will be crawling into the editing cave and busting butt this weekend, so I can format and have the book set for pre-order on the 13th like I promised.

I met the agent in NYC at RWA Nationals and pitched an idea to her. She asked me to write it and send the completed manuscript to her because she was interested. I’m not opposed to publishing traditionally, especially if it helps find new readers for my backlist. So, if I get the romantic thriller written and to her, we’ll see. If she doesn’t like it, I’ll self-pub it. But with four active series, I may be overreaching. LOLOL Good thing I’m a glutton.

I’d take some of the chocolate cake. Maybe I’ll give up, hit Starbucks, and splurge on a chocolate croissant.

Hugs again and good luck on getting back to work. I just added 500 words to the thriller for a #flashfiction challenge so I’m thinking I’ll turn my attention to it as long as the creative juices are running. 😉

      • Oh. Okay. I took it wrong. You’re just so busy and working so hard and this is just one more thing on top of all your other things. :hugs: I do hope you get an agent if you want one and that they sell your books by the truckload – like they deserve to be sold. =o)

I posted the recipe yesterday. It’s super easy – especially if you skip the homemade frosting and buy some.

I made it through chapter 10 last night. Today I hope to be at least to chapter 30. Yay for your words and I hope the creative juices keep flowing!

I’m always looking at ways to enhance my career, ie. sell more books. I liked the agent, for the most part, but she wanted the full MS rather than a proposal. I sort of understand why. I worked some more on it yesterday and I’m liking the characters so I’ll keep at it in odd moments. With the two HQ books, I pretty much cleared my publishing schedule for the rest of the year so nothing new from me until 2016. As soon as I turn in RDR#4, I need to get the proposal for RDR#5 written and submitted. That keeps me in the loop and the advance money coming in. 🙂

Saw the recipe for the cake. I’ll have to give it try some day. LG is more fond of brownies and those are so freaking simple that I can make them in my sleep. And no frosting. LOLOL
