‘Twas the Monday Before Christmas

…and all through the house, all the creatures were stirring, even a mouse. Pete in his garage, Loki lickity-split, Boone in his bumbles and Jake in his vest, all waiting for the weather and the presents to come. Hey, I never claimed to be a real poet. Anyway, Christmas is now only 6 days away. Also, Happy 2nd Day of Hanakkuh!

Today is my “doublle” Wallyworld run–I refuse to go anywhere near retail of any stripe on the day AFTER Christmas, which is a Monday this year, and my normal grocery run day. I’ll lay in enough supplies to get us through at least mid-week. There will be a pup cup for Jake and a stop at Ace Hardware for birdseed and my last last-minute present. Now all I have to do is wrap!

In other news that isn’t important to anyone but me, we have new garage doors! They arrived last Wednesday, along with Uncle Fix-It and his door guru. They are insulated so the garage is at least 10 degrees warmer, if not more. LG got the new cat door installed for Pete. It was not without its trials and tribulations but hey, blame it on the instructions. I read them too, and they were backwards. The doors don’t have windows so now we leave a small light on 24/7 because it is dark in there! Also, they only lock from the iniside with no hangle or way to unlock from the outiside. Good thing the garage door opener still works.

I finished a book that I really enjoyed, even though it took me a week. I was busy with other things that precluded even listening to it. THE WIZARD’S BUTLER by Nathan Lowell is what I call a cozy urban fantasy. There’s a wizard. And his butler. There’s a money grubbing neice, pixes and fairies, and classic cars. It was fun and cozy and perfect for this time of year.

The weather folks keep predicting a Siberian something or other, alletedly worse than a polar express. They’re talking 14 for a high on Thursday and those temps lasting through Christmas. This past weekend and the early week is 40s during the day and below freezing overnight. Brrrr. I gave up on outdoor decorating. The Christmas door wreath is hung and I keep a string of green LED lights lining the brick sill of the porch year round. Good enough for government work, as they say. Next year, I’ll get the swags up when it’s warm! Also, no Christmas here–going to the Kids and the in-laws for presents before returning here for turkey sandwhiches and pie, just the two of us. Yes, I do feel a little like Scrooge this year, why do you ask?

Anyway, I have made progress on CROSSFIRE. Then I remembered that I didn’t have a Christmas story for this year. That’s sort of a minor tradition. Sort of. Anyway, come back for Wednesday Words and read it. I’ll try to fix it so that there’s easy access for all. I will give you a little tease, Loch from Harrd Target is the MC.

Stormy spent the night last night. Baseball Boy scored tickets to a comedienne so he and Only had a date night. We enjoy Stormy so it’s all good. I had to laugh when I asked him if he wanted to go grocey shopping at Wallyworld with me. He just stared for a long moment, turned, and walked away. That look said it all!

This is going to be a week full of comfort food–beef stew, chili and/or spaghetti, shepherd’s pie, and making and baking of homemade rolls and cinnamon rolls. No cookies. I used to do cookie trays for LG’s office and folks. It’s hard work, I’m old, and neither of us need the calories or sweets. I do have a turkey breast for Christmas Day. Turkey sammiches FTW!

That’s it for me. I’ll be on my regular posting schedule since the holiday falls on the weekend. Unless I get lazy. That’s been known to happen. 🤣 Who’s ready for the holidays? Who’s got last minute stuff to finish? Did I mention I REALLY need to wrap presnts? Yeah, I’ll get right on that. Today. Tomorrow. Sometime sonn. 😉 One last thing: Don’t let Monday get you down!

Im thinking rice, beans and tamales for Christmas Eve, its only me. I’ll be on vacay if the Frosty train comes down my way later this week.Need to move some boxes, patio chairs to make room for Crush in the garage, so her ass is not flashing in the breeze😄😄. Will be different since this is my first cold spell in the new place.

The gurus here say it’ll make it’s way all the way to Houston but not sure of the temp variations. Rice, beans, and tomales sounds good! I may add that to the week’s menu. Do you make your own? I go easy and just grab the ones Braum’s carries. And many thanks for the card and the treat. You are much too kind and generous! ❤ ❤ 🎄🎅🏼

Silver, I have to say use bags if you are not in the mood to wrap. They save time and your sanity.

🤣🤣🤣 Amen, sister! Gift bags are my BFFs! And LG managed to find the tub where I’d stored my “repeats” from last year. Most will be bagged, tagged, and tissued. Some, though, are too big for even a big bag aod bring on the paper, tape and ribbon. That’s on my list for tomorrow.

Got something to say?
