We’ve hit the end of January. How the heck did that happen? And Winter has decided to return in full force. Just ask my knees. I’m ready for warm weather. That said, I like the change of seasons. I wouldn’t be happy living in a place where things remaned the same. Anyway, it’s freaking cold out there today. And there’s ice in the forecast. As a friend says, BLERG. I want to be this cat, still snuggled up under the covers. Ah well. There’s stuff to do. You know, it being Monday and all.
Progress on the WIP was made last week and a slight bit over the weekend. With the weather pretty much dictating that I’m not leaving home, I hope to accomplish more this week. We’ll see. I have made a few notes on things to fix when I go back for edits and revisions.
No Wallyworld today. Yesterday, over my first cup of Cafe du Monde coffee, I debated when to make my supply run. Yesterday at 24 degrees or today at 17. Yeah, I went yesterday. I plan to stay in fuzzy pants, warm houseshoes, and hoodies today. And since the book takes place in winter, here’s hoping I’m inspired. LOL
Over the weekend, I donated blood. One of the local pet rescues was there. They had two adorable pit puppies that barked every time the door opened. As my service dog, Jake pretty much goes everywhere with me. He just looked at the pups, sighed, and gave me big eyes. He’s such a good boy. He laid right there at the head of the table out of everyone’s way while I pumped out my quota. The good news is, the excellent vampire was there. He’s so good at his job that you barely feel the stick and this little to no blood once the needle thingy is removed. No soreness at all. Also, I filled my bag in five minutes. The guy half my age on the next table was all agog.
Saturday night was Stormy’s last soccer game this season. He played excellently at all three positions. Spring season starts in early March. 🥶 or 🥵 depending on Mother Nature’s mood. And yeah, spring is outside, which is why weather is an issue.
I finished a couple of books last week. They were okay. Discovered a searies about dragon shifters on Hoopla. The audio books are free so yay. They’re okay too. If I start something I’m really into, I’ll procrastinate with it rather than working on my own book. I did spend a lot of time looking for a book/series to listen to. I had this vague idea of what appealed but I could neither define exactly what that was. After sifting through long lists of books, nothing “tasted” right. When I found the dragon series, it was sort of “it’s okay for now.” I still have that vague sense in the back of my mind so I’m still looking for just the right thing.
On that note, time for another cup of coffee, checking a few blogs, and then getting to work. What about y’all? Do you always know exactly what you want to read? And how was your week/weekend?
Definitely Blerg. I, too, would like to be that cat. Yay for progress on the WIP! Yay for getting Wallyworld out of the way and staying home today. Good for you for donating blood and getting the good vampire. Yay for good boy Jake. Go, Stormy! Sorry you can’t find the right books to listen to. Yay for almost-right, though. It’s better than nothing.
I have a general idea of what I want to read and pick from what I have on my shelves to fulfill the need. Sometimes, I have to scan through ebooks online to find what I want, but that’s rare. The weekend was fine here. Nothing much happened. I did some contemplating – that’s on the blog – and ran a few errands. I’m mostly over the head cold now, so laying around was the right ticket. The roads here are ice covered this morning, which means I’m not sure if I’m going to work. I’ll have to call and find out from the boss what the plan is.
Consider your roads, I hope you get to stay in. We had lots of sleet. And thunder. So far, no freezing rain. 🤞🏼 Glad the cold is better! And yay for pretty much knowing what will satisfy your inner reader. Mine normally isn’t so picky but sort of like Iffy, Murgatroyd sometimes gets persnickety. Stay safe if you have to get out among ’em. I’m only getting out to feed the birds and deal with Boone potty breaks if he won’t go out by himself. Brrrr. 🥶🥶🥶
It’s NY. I’m used to the weird weather here. It was 50 Saturday and below freezing today.
I got the carpet pulled up in my office thanks to a friend of mine.
Saturday would have been Jim’s 89th birthday. I ended up taking all of his handguns and one remaining rifle I hadn’t sold, to a gun buy back event. NY doesn’t allow you to do anything but turn them in if you don’t have a permit and I refuse to deal with getting one anymore. I have my shotgun, so I’m good. They about had a heart attack with what I brought in. Had Jim actually had a permit it would have been easier to sell them.
On a strange note, remember the post about the sleeping bag and my answer? The person I was thinking about, who I haven’t talked to in almost 40 years, messaged me the same day as your post. Talk about things converging. Out of the blue.
Whoa! Kismet? Karma? And yeah, convergence is a good term to use. That’s pretty crazy but cool at the same time. I know you still miss Jim. He was one of the good guys. NY law is…well…let’s just say I’m glad I live where I live and we have Constitutional carry. Yay for getting rid of the carpet and I bet your office will be awesome when you get it finished. *looks around* Yeah, I need to get back on mine, too, but I really need Only’s input because over half the stuff in here is hers. After 11 years, you’d think I could just box it and donate it but as soon as I did, she’d come looking for something. 🤣 And yeah, weather is weird. As Will Rogers said about the weather here, “If you don’t like it, wait 15 minutes and it’ll change.” Stay warm up there! ❤
