Hello! It’s the first Monday of May, in case y’all are keeping track. There was a previous week and a weekend. And now it’s Monday, the day I consider the beginning of my week, even though I know that Sunday starts things off.
Things happened. Not many things but things.
With spring comes a change. I’ve thrown off the thick comforter and dark sheets of winter and now have the light sheets and chenile bedspread on. Mother Nature couldn’t make up her mind until last week so there’d been a delay in the switch. Sleeping light was really nice last night.
FLOWERS! The breeze is wafting through my open office window bringing the elusively sweet fragrance of honeysuckle. There are pink roses and purple irises and a white peony. Spring arrived late but it’s here finally and I hope it’s gets its due before summer rears it’s hot-headed presence.
TV is a mixed bag these days. I REALLY miss baseball. The Masked Singer who was unmasked last week turned out to be country star Hunter Hayes. I didn’t get any of the clues but that doesn’t surprise me. I watch because the costumes are crazy-cool and the talent is amazing. LIVE PD is doing what it can given the circumstances but I’ll be happy when it goes back to it’s regular 3-hour format. I’ve also been watching a couple of the ghost shows. They’re filler, mostly, because I usually end up rolling my eyes.
Reading/listening was a mix of new and old. I’ve been on a JD Robb In Death marathon, as y’all know. That’s been interspersed with books that drop from the library where I’ve had them on hold and stories a bit more light-hearted. Well, CASINO ROYALE isn’t that light. 😆 I grabbed the Ian Fleming classic for $1.95 in audio. Score! I love Fleming’s writing. I followed that up with Molly Harper’s whimsical paranormal romance, ALWAYS BE MY BANSHEE. I opened JUDGEMENT IN DEATH but then Danielle Trussoni’s THE ANCESTOR dropped from the library. It’s…hard to describe. I enjoyed it but have no clue how to classify it. There are supernatural elements, except…not. It’s very gothic in tone but there’s no hero. Anyway, it was odd and interesting and the author’s voice and story structure reminded me a bit of the early works of Mary Steward or Phyllis A. Whitney. Then I jumped into a relisten of Jennifer Estep’s Crown of Shards series, with KILL THE QUEEN. LOVE this book. I rolled over to PROTECT THE PRINCE and once done with it, I get to start the new release, CRUSH THE KING.
In writing news, I’ve rewritten the first 3K words of my 5K short story I hope to submit for an anthology. I have 12 days. I really need to finish it today. Heck, it’s only 2K words (less, actually) but the problem with telling a complete story in short form is that every last one of those words has to count. 🤔
Oklahoma is slowly starting to open up. We met Only, Baseball Boy, and Stormy for a sit-down-in-a-restaurant dinner Saturday night. It was wonderful to sit and visit with them. We were good. We all wore masks in, used hand sanitizers, and washed our hands when we got home. Our curve seems to have flattened and I’m more than ready to get things back to as normal as they can be. My life is pretty boring anyway but with the lock-down? It’s beyond boring!

Yay for lighter bedding! We put the flannel sheets away until fall this weekend, too. Yay for flowers! Eh for the TV stuff. I want baseball, too. And golf. And the Kentucky Derby. Yay for fun and interesting books to listen to. Go you on those 3K words! Rock it, sister. Yay for getting together with family and for restaurants you can sit inside of again.
Here? Well, as you know, Ugly and the Beast went live. I got the Kindle Unlimited thing fixed, so you can read it any time you want to. Other than that, it was a pretty bland weekend. I read some. And I made brownies, because I needed them. Ever since that stupid litter thing, Kira’s been off, so we’re watching her carefully to see if she needs a vet visit. She’ll be 17 this coming Saturday, so we have to be careful with her. We had some storm stuffs, but we didn’t get much of the bad junk here. Softball sized hail elsewhere in the area, though. Ew. Today, I have to finish up all the post-publication stuff and then get back into writing Cinder Ugly and get it released sometime this summer. Fun fun.
Poor Kira. I totally know how that goes. I miss Deeders. She was mine and loved to snuggle with me. Loki adopted LG and mostly treats me like a can opener. 🤣
Glad you ducked the hail! We have a chance for weather this afternoon. Had to break down this morning and turn on the AC. With luck, after the storm front moves through, we can turn it off because things will cool down starting tomorrow. I’m cheap. Also, I like to smell my honesuckle now that the darn things are in bloom!
I grabbed Ugly and the Beast on KU. I’ll read through it later so you get the pages. I hit Wallyworld this morning and stocked up on hamburger, dog treats, and chicken breasts. We’re set for several weeks now.
